So I've been with this company for about a month now. It's been a headache so far with getting loads scheduled properly and having them rescheduled. My Driver Leader is brand new and inexperienced, she doesn't know anything about HOS. So with that in mind, I picked up this trailer and noticed the inspection sticker is expired by 3 mos. When I expressed my concerns to my driver leader she reached out to another more experienced one, and informed me that even though the inspection is expired they have sent an email to the shop manager. And that I will be fine to run the load and everything until they can get it inspected. I just wanted to know if what she's telling me is correct? Will DOT let it slide? Thanks!
Trailer Inspection is Expired

90% of the time, yes. I haven't even put an inspection sticker on my trailer yet, and I've been running it 8 months now. In the 1000's of service calls I've made to the 5 weigh stations near me, never has one been for a expired or non existent DOT.

Inspection sticker doesn't mean anything. It's the paperwork that matters. Now assuming the paperwork matches the sticker you may get away with it. You may also get an inspection.
If you get inspected, you will very, vrry likely get a violation and likely a citation.
Now some will say since you are newish to the company you shouldn't rock the boat. Truth is, if you run illegally now they will expect you to run illegally in the future. Refuse to pull it until it's legal. After all it's not that expensive to get a mobile mechanic out to do it.tscottme, JoeyJunk, jethro712 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Does it expire ‘in 3 months’ or has it ‘been expired for 3 months’?

The lead driver(s) aint the ones that's going to pay the tickets. If its out, its out. You may be able to run it for a few days. Even if you get caught, you may get a pass but, if you get a ticket, you need to know who's gonna back you up come time to pay that ticket. I'd go to the shop manager or my driver manager and tell them straight up..... the yearly inspection is out. You want me to run it or not?
If they say run it, ask who is gonna take care of the ticket if it comes.
The more serious issue here is, who's gonna take the heat when that trailer is involved in an accident?
You and you alone. Period. -
