I finally made a horrible rookie mistake on my 2nd week out, well I guess in a way it was two back to back mistakes. At a Consignee in Philly I had to turn around and it was a small dirt lot but after GOAL I was convinced I could make it....well I did. But it torn off the left wing (the thing that attaches to the back of the tractor for wind resistance?) and then on the process of finishing the turn around, and going the direction required, my trailer hit one of those metal poles they put in the ground to protect fences or other objects from being hit. Well I can say those things work, as my trailer now has a slight piece broken. Really feeling horrible but I did everything like I am supposed too, called my fleet manager and talked to our safety / claims department and took all pictures of the any damage.

Now what I am concerned about and I have not heard an answer yet, probably will not until tomorrow but was hoping to know something tonight, is the trailer has a slight tear (its like a V shaped) in a single cross member where it hit the pole. In my honest opinion it does not look like it would pose a problem but then again I am still new to this and do not know for certain if a small hole in a cross member would make the trailer absolutely unusable (by that I mean load it to near max weight, around 79000)

I am trying to upload the picture from my phone but it does not appear it wants to save on my laptop, will update soon if I can manage to transfer it.

Such a rookie mistake and I feel so bad. Really hoping they give me another shot

Well depending on the company and the severity of the damages, Do they think you will not do this again, how sincere are you when you talk to Safety? If you try to blame everyone else except yourself like the cat that distracted you making you not see the pole then they may send you packing but if you sound remorseful then you may be able to hang out. If they are a starter company then they may just repair the trailer and move on with it, if they love the DAC system then they may send you packing they will certainly let you know! I hope it works out for you.

One cross member bent isn t really going to hurt the strength of the trailer floor. It takes several bent cross members to significantly tell the difference. A lot of times, a trailer tire blowout can bend a cross member. Just walk in the trailer and walk over the area where the cross member is bent. If it has a soft spot, then you worry, if not you should be good to go

Yeah it is a starter company, and I have a perfect record but with these two mistakes kinda brings me down. Never had something like this happen so I am just nervous. And I definitely did not blame anyone other than myself, I just misjudged the size of the lot that I needed to use to turn around. I should have just took the time to perform some sort of backing up turn around maneuver. I knew Philly was going to be tough but whew that city was a nightmare!

Oh and I love the new Cascadia Evolutions, I hope if my company keeps me I can get one in the future too! I work at Maverick by the way.

I am sure that would have been ok to do but I believe in owning up to my mistakes. We do a lot of trailer swaps so eventually that damaged would have been brought back to me and in return I could end up in the same boat as I am in now, if not worse. Of course I am doing any and all patches / repairs I feel comfortable doing so I do not need to lose time going in for repairs. Thank you for the reply!

Well Driver, you got in it knee deep. I am proud You Fessed Up. I tore a truck up, made me drive it a month. Didn't fire me. Some company's are not that forgiving. Just have to see.
