heres the scoop:
I have a 2013 kw t660 isx15 with 772k miles on it. it needs work of about $8K according to the KW dealer. it still runs and drives and also has an apu.
kw dealer will allow $15k on trade towards a 2016 kw t680 mx13 engine with 550k miles and I give up 15K cash.
so my truck 2013 kw t660 772K miles and APU plus $15K for a 2016 kw t680 paccar mx13 engine with 550K miles and APU included.
would you do this trade?
why or why not?
I been trying to figure this out for the past week.
trade in 2013 kw t660 cummins isx 15 for 2016 kw t680 mx13?

I have a '13 T680 with an ISX15.
Personally, I'd fix the T660. I love my T680 (it is MINE after all), but the T660 series is just overall better built in my opinion. I think they are somewhat lighter, and I remember my old T600 (company truck) had better road manners than my current T680.
Don't get me wrong. My T680 is solid, dependable, and goes to work every day without complaint. She's got over half a million miles on the clock, and all she has cost me is basic maintenance.
But the T680's are known for minor electrical gremlins. Which, if you don't stay on top of them, become MAJOR gremlins. So don't feed them after midnight.
Besides, you never said how much the dealer wants for the '16? I betcha it's gonna.be more than $8,000...
Never mind, got the $15,000 plus your current truck.
$15,000 plus $13,000 trade in equals $27,000 for an unknown truck. Keep the known truck. -

What's the 8k for? Might want to see an independent shop and get a second opinion.

Why not spend the 8k on your current truck you know what you have you could be getting screw on getting the other truck Maybe shop around call other shop an see what they tell you on the repairs.

thanks for all the responses.
I knew the right answer is to keep the current truck, but I needed to hear it from others to solidify my thinking.
i'll keep rolling with the t660.
the current t660 needs a clean or new dpf, may be egr plugged, has a leaking rearmost axle, no air conditioning (from engine main compressor), apu air conditioner does not work either, some uneven tread wear on left front steer tire, coolant leaks that use about a gallon a week, a very small front engine (oil) seal leak that can take a gallon of oil every week or two depending on how much driven. and bunk heater (not APU heater) is never used and was leaking but was disconnected over two years ago.
it was $15K for my trade plus $15K cash. so $30K, not including taxes for the purchase.
