if I push in the yellow brake valve and have my foot on the brake pedal I have a massive air leak through the brake valve exhaust but if I push in the red button the leak stops, I think this is the tpv but not sure and donot know how to check it properly

tractor protection valve only activates if sudden loss of psi in trailer air system. are you saying it's dumping out of the mv3 valve( brake valve on dash) or treddle valve exhaust port. if the mv3 valve you have a faulty valve in dash. if leaking at treddle valve replace treddle valve. this is from bendix air brake material for troubleshooting air brake system. to test tractor protection valve build full air psi with red button out, disconnect service line to trl, apply service brakes, no air should exhaust from the service line. if it does tractor protection valve faulty

I have seen this problem before. The shuttle in the anticompounding quick release valve is letting service pressure (foot valve)return back into MV3 (dash valve) and out the exhaust
