Pulled over on a steep on-ramp, set the brake, and the truck started rolling. Good thing I didn't go straight to the sleeper to grab something. What causes this? Just weak spring pressure or should you set trailer brake, also? This is the first time I've ever seen this.

Brakes are out of adjustment. Would be the first thing to check and is usually the problem.

Should always set the trailer brakes too. And if they don't hold. See above comment.

Also, angle the steering so if the truck should roll. It's steered in a safe direction. Preferably against a curb or something so that the truck has less chance of rolling away. If a curb or something is available.

Bet most of your park springs are busted. If it held with your foot on the pedal but not with the park brake that'd be my first suspect.

Next time look out to see if only one tire is sliding on ice , most trucks have emg. brake one drive axle, all trailers have emg. brakes on both axles so if you dont set trailer emg. brakes you are in trouble?

Always set the trailer brakes when on a hill or anytime you park the truck?

That’s too much weight for the brakes on the tractor to hold on a slope. I’d get them checked too but I’ll bet it’s mostly the weight and the slope causing you to slide.

Broken spring in brake pot. Some trucks only have parking brakes on one drive axle. So you may have only one brake trying to hold it in place.

The thread is talking about an incline.

Relying on tractor brakes only could cost you your job. As the op is finding out. But hey. It's a good way to tell the brakes are out of adjustment.
