I am looking to start my own small trucking company and looking to purchase an 2005 Peterbilt 357, a 1992 GMC, TOPKICK C6500 and a 1994 ISUZU ECOMAX.

I have read some of these stories about drivers being charged high rates. Being that they are older vehicles, is it worth it to purchase towing insurance? What is the upfront costs compared to just getting the trucks towed?

Well I had mine towed home a few weeks ago 48 miles at the bargain price of 1200$ if I had to have the trailer hauled it would have been another 400$ so one tow bill for 1200 vs insurance that costs 600 a year !

That seems like a lot. If you had towing insurance, what would the difference be?

Towing insurance is usually included in a relatively small premium for your actual policy. It is worth it. If you go deep into the rhubarb it can get real expensive real fast. Also consider if you rupture a fuel tank and the necessary clean up costs, those are also very expensive. It wouldn't be unheard of if even a simple looking job ended up being 10-20 grand

When I was oo. I had a policy that bought down 2500 deductible on damage to 100, (auto transport) and also towing insurance. Used the tow part 1 time, had a 250 deductable, tow bill was 600, but was also counted as a claim against policy.

A big time recovery wreck involving your tractor trailer and 5 rotators showing up... kaching. tens of thousands in hours.

I guess get the insurance. But frankly I prefer not to be around tow trucks that big. And we have been towed twice in 2001 back to Lancaster Tx for a software bricked Auto transmission. Literally a computer windows type Blue screen system crash because as a team truck we never shut it off that it requires each week. Who knew.

    The bill? Around 2400 total.

Plus a destroyed JIT appointment and service failure related costs from customer who may or may not have had to close the factory for not having that load delivered in time to keep it running. pay and pay and pay.

I signed up with Road masters for up to 3 tows a year for near $400 . I thinks it's for a tow to a shop within 50 miles. It's already payed for itself with 1 tow this year . I think other services are included like road side.
