I have a tow truck with a pto pump on the side of the motor , I paid a shop to put it back on after I got it took off for repairs on motor . So they put the pump back on and certain stuff doesn’t work like when I hit my pto switch for my boon the go down it make a squeaking sound and I have to push the button and push the boon with my hand for it to go down , and now it can barely pick up a car , the claws come out fine and the boon extends good , but when I put it down are up it don’t move unless I have some one push it first , I need help . I told the mechanic he said it’s nothing he can do. We got into a altercation and he called the police so I left , what would make my pump start doing that ? He said because I need 2 belts around the alternator and pto pump but I didn’t have 2 before and it was working just fine , help me out . What should I do ? It’s messing with my money

You try putting another belt on it, see if he was right? Call whoever built the thing and talk to them? Check the fluid make sure it's full?
You try bringing it to somebody who actually knows what they're doing?

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

Yes he said he put a new titanium belt on it the second time, it already has a crack in the belt he put on , it never had 2 belts before and was working just fine, fluid is full, I’m going to take it somewhere else tomorrow, The mechanic said he knew he should not have tooken the job in the first place, the other mechanic who work there , came out and said it was mounted wrong I have it recorded so I guess he didn’t know what he was doing ,

What is your location? I sell tow trucks and can recommend a good shop if I know where you are.

You may have multiple problems, and adding a second belt is not going to help much. It will keep the pump from slipping under heavy load, although the rest of your drive system is not set up for dual belts. With just a quick look I can tell by the pictures that they did not align the pump properly when they put the engine back together. As for your boom functions not working properly, mainly slow under load and squealing, I would be willing to be they have the lines hooked up wrong when they put the pump back on the engine.

Also, for future reference, what you have is not a PTO, it is a engine mounted pump. A PTO comes off the transmission, yours is commonly referred to as a clutch pump.

It's not the pump that's out of alignment, it is the alternator.

The alternator looks like it was put together missing one of the pulley shims.

    Lepton1 and Kellz216 Thank this.

I’m in Cleveland Ohio , if you know of a good shop let me know please .That’s what I was trying to show him , but he said it’s nothing he can do , I have a voice record where he says he knew he should not have took the job and the other mechanic saying it’s on wrong so I think I have a strong case , but for now I’m unable to work because i put the little money I did have into getting my truck fixed people call me for junkers and tows everyday , And thanks for the knowledge about the pump Sir , Appreciate it .
