Hey ya'll, I am sadden to inform ya'll that Maverick fell through. I talked to Total Transportation of Mississippi Friday and I made a decision to go with Total. I know it's owned by USXpress. I am wanting to know the good, bad, and the ugly about this company. I know everything is not all flowers and rainbows so to speak lol. I would like to hear from current drivers on what they think.

As you said its now owned by us xpress. I cant tell you about total in particular but us xpress i was not impressed by. They were highly unprofessional at orientation. Their equipment is crappy. They stick new drivers in california for months and months when you first start. Their equipment sucks. They find ways to screw you out of pay (like breakdown). Their equipment is poorly maintained (they seem to have an issue with the system that tracks when they are due for service, to the extent that they frequently void the warranty on their vehicles). They apparently have a low CSA score so they get pulled into all the ports in Cali (which as a new driver youll be there often, racking up fix it tickets). They can't seem to find good shops to send their trucks to, to get fixed. I personally got on a dedicated 100 miles from home to get out of cali and to be home more, yet between christmas and mid april i didnt get home. Oh and did I mention the equipment??
Virtually every driver I spoke to while I was there (which wasnt too many as it seems to not be a very welcoming and friendly company compared to others {even tho i was on a dedicated account at Coors a couple times a week and seeing many other drivers on the same account I only ever had one befriend me and others seemed to go out of their way to avoid so much as waving at you}) said the same thing "its an ok company to work for but the equipment is junk". -
I worked for total for a year. Usx has a share in Total, they are not "owned" Overall they were good. Their loads and dispatching is very much disconnected from usx. You are non forced dispatch from your home terminal only. You can actually choose your outbound load while at your Home terminal. You will do a lot of fed ex and Conway loads.
housecat and metalcrow187 Thank this. -
We work for US Xpress. I can tell you about them.
*They have good trucks. Ours is a 2013 ProStar. We had the choice of getting a brand new Cascadia but we prefer a ProStar. They do have a bad CSA score but when I spot a problem with the tractor or trailer....they will let me get it fixed. I have never had a problem with getting them to fix something. We do reefer for them. This means we have to go to California a lot to pick up produce. I don't get what's wrong with California other than the 55 mph. We have NEVER been pulled into a weight station for an inspection. We go into the weight station once in a while to scale. That's about it.
* Since we live in Chicago, there is a lot of freight going thru here. They get us home on time.
Things I don't like about US Xpress:
* Evening & Weekend support people are rude
* You really gotta be on top of things. The office people are not the brightest. Took us repeated calls & emails for two weeks to get our breakdown pay.
* If you want the miles & you want it to be consistent...you need to get on one of their dedicated accounts. The ones I recommend is FedEx, Amazon, Ceva. Those are all drop & hook. I know teams who do 7,000+ weekly. They never tell you that in orientation.
* You only get 4 days off a month. You can kiss having a life goodbye.
I would recommend US Xpress for newbies but if you have the experience....get on with someone else.
Now about Total: I've talked to their drivers before & a recruiter. They pay .50 cpm for teams. I've seen a lot of 2010 Volvos in their fleet. You'll have to go to Mississippi for orientation. A driver told me that they have dedicated accounts that can get you home on the weekends & even every night. You'll have to do OTR & prove yourself to get on those accounts.
The drivers I talked to seem to be happy working for them.
That's all I know about Total. Hope this helpshousecat, metalcrow187 and jungledrums Thank this. -
I got pulled in almost every single time I went past an open scale. They pulled me in for an inspection, couldnt find anything so they started digging further. They finally found that on the pigtail on the tandems, the airlines had been bundled together and where they were touching they had started rubbing and the cords on an airline were almost exposed. -
The chances of going to Cali as a solo at Total are probably less than 1%. You will do everything east of I-35

Californication and you don't lnow what's wrong with it?? Boy! Your luck may hold out but you will probably find out soon enough. I would'nt run a truck out there these days. They can pull you off the freeway and weigh you, write you up for staying in a lane too long even when you have the signal on and are trying to get to the right from a Left entry. No signs telling you it's illegal to take offramps, exoborant fines for petty crimes like a ligh bulb out during the day.

can you tell im still a little upset about that?

Ok my friend worked for them for exactly a year (wanted something local), the only complaint he ever had was the EQUIPMENT yes he was broke down a lot. Mind you he was team driving so the truck was constantly in motion, he brought home after taxes 1000 sometimes more. But he must not have been broke down as much as he say, cause he always was calling me telling me about some car or bike he just purchased lol. Either way get your experience, try to stay on for at least a year, then move on to something better, be safe out there!
