The Red Cross just came out with a new app that will alert you with a tornado siren if you are close to a tornado:

Since I'm currently driving nights I downloaded this app. My biggest concern is driving in the dark without any visual clues from the clouds.

The android phone I have has the emergency alert as part of the setup. Really, both are worthless if you have the locations turned off on the phone.

What is the advantage to turning off locations on your phone?

Burns the battery up and costs money in Canada if you forget.

I can post on facebook and other sites with no idea where I am.

If it works as intended it might be good. Night time tornadoes, while rare do occur and these are the most dangerous for obvious reasons and unless you are actively watching radar with your position plotted on it and know how to interpret what you're seeing, it can be a real stressful situation. However, I fear this app might create a lot of "false warnings" for nearby warnings where your present position is as "safe" as can be assuming a stationary position.

Also, FWIW, tonight (04/26) could have some post sunset tornado activity in NW OK and SW KS, perhaps into central OK. Could be a very dangerous situation developing there if these continue to fire well past dark-thirty as they are prog'd to

Also, Sunday evening/night (04/27) could also present itself much in the same way with wicked amounts of shear and instability for the central and SW'n areas of Arkansas (more or less along I-30), late evening and probably continuing on to at least 22:00

I have an IPhone but I assume an Android might work in the same way ... rotate the phone to "landscape mode" will help, also, can pinch zoom to increase text scaling size.

If the website is not mobile enabled then the text will be small. My bank is the same way.

It probably has pinch zoom. That's what I use on TTR.

Put outlook your fingers apart and the page will enlarge.mb and index finger together in the screen center. pull
