I had a root canal done on one of my molars a couple years ago. It was fine for awhile, but now it's infected again. I was fortunate to get in to a dentist on Friday and he gave me a prescription for antibiotics and for painkillers. He recommeded I have the tooth pulled. So now I'm trying to get to Ohio and my regular dentist, but that will take at least a few days (I'm in New Mexico currently). Right now I am in serious pain. The antibiotics haven't seemed to have done anything, my face is actually more swollen than it was on Friday. The painkillers I can't take while working, and they aren't doing much for me anyway.
Any ideas for getting through the next few days without shooting myself?
tooth infected, any suggestions?

Lots and Lots of oral gel until you can get to ohio if I were you I would get it pulled ASAP once the infection goes away. Try putting compacts on your face like hot or cold

Try using tea bags. Put one in the area of the infected tooth. The caffeine will help cut the pain, and the tea bag will also help cut the infection some as well. It's something my hubby picked up years ago. Tea bag needs to be dry when it goes into your mouth. Bit gross, especially if you're not a tea drinker, but hubby says it works really well.

Get the Tooth pulled as fast as you can!
There is NO coming back from a bad tooth, especially one where you already had a root canal.
I had a bad root canal done by a so called dentist and ended up losing the tooth.1nonly Thanks this. -
When I was a kid, we used clove oil for temporary relief of toothaches. You can purchase it, over the counter, at most pharmacies... however I would advise that you talk to the pharmacist to find out how often to apply since you're going to be using this for a few days. If too much is absorbed into the system, it can cause cell damage... and you don't want that. But it's very effective when used properly.

Also you can use something with naproxen in it. It has a imflameatory which might ruduce some of the swelling plus releave some of the pain, until you get where you need to go.

I'm sucking on a tea bag now, and it does taste kinda bad. And it barely fits in my mouth and is making me drool.
But, hey, if it works, it's worth it!Lilbit Thanks this. -
I take Ester-C, 1000mg once a day, hope to get to a dentist I can trust soon.
That works better for me than antibiotics.1nonly Thanks this. -
I think the teabag helped. It's not throbbing as much now.
Thanks, Lilbit! -
