I heard the i pass is good. If you hit illinois, you can go in at a toll plaza and get one. I have been told.
Edit: I plan and getting the same. Pay by plate has gotten very expensive.Last edited: Jan 1, 2021

The carrier I am leased to gave me a Best Pass and their website says it is good an all major toll roads. I don’t carry the pass in my rig, but my license plate is registered and it works when my EZ Pass does not pick up if I have a large unit over the cab. I am not sure which toll roads are not considered major.

Part of the Map-21 legislation in 2012 mandated that toll road transponders be usable nationwide. Deadline for this was in 2016, but I don't know if it happened.

E Z Pass Elite works in 48 States

The first time I traveled a new toll road in Houston I saw the EZ sign from a distance and thought it was EZ Pass, but it wasn’t.

I had Illinois I-pass when I had my own truck. Its cheap to get the only thing I did not like was it takes 24 hours to update the balance in EZ pass system. So if you put $150 on I-pass it would take 24 hours before it would work on the EZ pass system. You can hit $250 in toll quickly in the northeast on EZ pass system.
I drive company truck now and they got Best Pass. It's has EZ pass transponder plus the white Best Pass transponder all in one plastic holder that hooked to windshield -
