Mutha Trucker aside (yes, I agree that guy's just a huckster...), this is something that happens to small-time truckstop owners. I'm sure the owner thought he was just going to get a small kick-back from the tow company when he WANTED a truck to be towed. I'd also bet that the truckstop owner's first language is not English, so he probably didn't really understand what he was getting into.

Back around circa 1990, there was another 'bruhaha' about small truckstops signing up with fly-by-night phone carriers on the driver phones in the restaurant tables (this was pre-cellphone days). In those days, we used calling cards; you called an 800 number, then you dialed in your card number, then you made your long distance call. But this one phone carrier blocked the 800 numbers of all the competition, and drivers started boycotting the truckstops that used them. The owners of the truckstops all thought they were going to get a slice of everybody's calls home, but all they did was lose customers, then complained about how much they lost having to put a 'real' phone carrier back in. Ah, those were the days.....

So, I bet the truckstop owner made a pretty penny having all his business towed away, at least for a couple of days......
