Hey everyone. My boss had a guy call and wants a few of us to pull his hopper bottoms locally. We will be hauling Fertilizer.
Now see, we are a dry van operation and have 2 flatbeds that run locally.. So I have no earthly idea on what the procedure for unloading and loading hoppers are.
I figure I would turn to you guys and have some basic knowledge before I go in tomorrow.
Thanks for any help or information!
Tips and tricks for hopper bottom trailers?

Dump your airbags before you unload or you could possibly blow out an airbag. Unroll you tarp before you unload unless its raining. Then u just unroll it till it hangs straight down that way the hoppers can breathe. If its bad windy dont roll/unroll untill necessary and then be really quick about it. If wind catches the tarp it will sometimes whip it over backwards and bend/break the tarp pole. Dont load on the tarp bows, they will bend over time.

Before loading make sure your chutes are closed. Before unloading roll back your tarps, if you don't it will create a vacuum and destroy them. Pretty basic after all that.

If it is too windy to close the tarps, turn the truck facing into the wind, then you can close them fine.
I've been loaded as fast as six minutes including paperwork, then again some places take 15 minutes to load and 45 for the paperwork.
Then there is the issue of line ups.Dark_Majesty_06 and 1951 ford Thank this.
