I read a lot about third party testers (testing). What is that and how does it work?

the third part tester is certified by the state to give the road test

in the cmv that you will be driving not sure myself if big trucking companies have them though

they are most commonly found at school bus companies (i should know worked with one when i drove school bus)

just what it says....someone who adminsiters the pre-trip, skills, and road test who isn't actually employed by the DMV of the respective state you're in.

we have them at my school......they are certified and licensed by the state to adminster the test and provide us with the documentation to go to the DMV and recieve our license once we are tested.....and from what I gather reading the various posts here, it's just like anything else anywhere you go....there are good ones and bad ones....ones who won't cut you any slack and ones who just push you through to get the next set of paying customers in.

fortunately, the ones at my school are older guys who have years of experience both on the road and as safety directors for various companies going all the way back to the early 70's......they didn't cut us any slack and didn't give us anything....we had to WORK for it and until we could run the qualifying routes perfectly, we didn't pass.....i ran a perfect run and scraped one gear going down to 4th coming into the yard and got failed for that ride.....it made me much better going into the test and i'm going to have alot more to offer to the company I'm starting with on the 31st because of it.....and I now have the license and can feel good about it and not doubt myself because they made sure I can handle and control the vehicle before I got it.....even if it still is a license to learn from the point i'm at now...

but, i've heard stories and seen posts on here of ones who aren't worth anything and just push the people through......that's why i took the time to research the schools and meet the instructors before i committed to one.....

I'll be going to Sage soon and they said that is what they use for testing.

Don't see why a carrier would question weather you went to a 3d party or the state facility--as long as it is a bonifde license--besides good luck in most states anymore finding a state facility--and by the way just for the record I AM AGAINST 3d party testing--but I am Old LOL
check out link to Fl DMV--only 4 sites in the entire state to take road skills tests--might wanna see how long it takes to get an appointment--

They don't use them at the Sage school I'm attending. You get tested by DMV testers at the port of entry.

Here in Georgia, the school I attended (a local community college) uses a third party examiner. In my mind anyway, he was as tough as any DMV examiner, but it was an advantage taking your test on the same range you had been practicing on for six weeks.

But one result of using the third party examiner is that I am subject to being called by the DMV for a review by one of their examiners for the next two years. If I had tested at their facility I would not be subject to that rule. Just an FYI.

In Colorado, they use third-party testers exclusively. The state would rather do that than go to the expense of maintaining CMVs for the purpose.
