Is it a good time to get into hot shot trucking?

Hot Shot is a very difficult industry.

The first question is not whether its a good time, the first question is how much experience do you have in the trucking/transportation industry?

My cousins husband went into hot shot, after retirement. He is doing OK, but not making a lot. It's more of a dream being lived for him

People have been flooding into hotshot for a few years. It looks to me like there are too many hotshots and not enough freight.

So easy to get into, anyone can drive a pickup and a trailer.

The rates suck, I had some engines, trans and rear axles moved from the old shop to the new shop. I could have done it with one of the drivers but I helped out someone who was struggling, he gave me a price for the three trips which came to $1.45 a mile. He said that was his price but I ended up giving him $2 a mile because I felt bad he didn't know how to price his services. He ended up sitting with one of my load planners to learn how it really works.
