My business partner and I are considering purchasing a box truck for 50-70k and listing it on sites to rent out to dispatchers. What are some things I need to consider to make this work and what are some issues that others have run into when doing this? Any advice on this will be helpful as I am new to the trucking industry
Thinking of buying a box truck to rent out, any advice?

Short answer is Don't.
If you have that much cash, there are much better thing to invest in.
And if you were going to finance a box truck to rent to someone else..... ####### DONT -
So the business plan is: buy a box truck, list it on "websites" (Craigslist?) then "dispatchers" will call you looking to rent it, is that about the long and short of the plan?
JoeyJunk, exhausted379 and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
You'd be better off just lighting that wad of cash on fire IMO.
Rentals get the #### beat out of them because the driver and company don't own a bolt in them.
You'll need to make back your original investment PLUS enough to cover a replacement truck because in 3 or 4 years that box truck will be a worthless pile of bolts from everyone driving the piss out of it. Plus there's maintenance, insurance and all the other associated costs.
Long story short, there's far better ways to piss away $50k. -
Watched a social medial video of box trucks making $3 dollars a mile?
let me guess same social media account also sells how to classes?
just honest question. -
Long story short, I would have not seen much more than maybe $3k a year in my own pocket after paying the driver a liveable wage, truck expenses and putting money aside for a new truck 5 years down the road. Like I said literally 20 minutes of research told me it was a waste of my time. -
Well OP is in the right place, he’s doing research prior to buying. Majority if not all those social media accounts, use the tried and true method.
flaunt fake BOL’s and fake broker conversations and then tell the watcher they too can make money.
The people who have little money saved up want to move up, and the money is burning a hole in their pocket.
in the end you have a culling that happens in every sector.
