Yes, gel batteries are excellent, at least on paper. They have no liquid in them so they cant spill. They don't create corrosion on the terminals, and eat battery cables, etc. They can be turned upside down, and wont suffer negative consequences. All this adds up to $$$ down the road with conventional batteries.

But, its the pricing difference. Most batteries have a 4 year life span (yes that's arguable) the EON batteries come with a 4 year 100% replacement. That's pretty much unheard of in conventional batteries.

Im still hoping somebody who has used these higher dollar batteries will jump in and share their experience with them. I wont bat an eye to spend $1200 on a set of batteries if they last 2x that of a conventional set, and wont eat my truck in the process.

My current batteries are less than 2 years old, they are eating the copper bars that link my batts together. I spent half a day recently replacing all the crimped connectors to each cable and cleaned every contact. Two weeks later you cant even tell I did all that work; for the corrosion that's on there again.

I have only experienced gel batteries in a motorcycle--and I do like them alot--especially when unfortunatly both my bike sit too much (LOL)
But as for in a big truck--I am really wondering the coast effectivenss? There is another thread somewhere about batteries-and as many drivers brought up--there are many ways to get first rate batteries for very reduced pricing--I get mine at the DEKA outlet in PA--1000cc amps for around $40--these are blems but other than that they are just fine(and yes I have 3 different colors-LOL) But in my case thats $200--for a full fresh set(including reefer) and I still get at least 3 years out of them--I do understand the usefulness of Gel batts--but wondering if the costs are worth it?
Any others have thoughts/experience with this?

I have one on my reefer. Where I live, in the middle of winter a wet cell battery will freeze so bad they must be replaced if the reefer has sit out in a wind chill while not running. The EON is a dry cell battery. They are immune to this. They are also guaranteed for 3-5 years, I can't remember. They are expensive but if you are replacing a wet cell annually, they pay for themselves in 3 years. Great battery

If you are putting four in your battery box, they are heavy. I would say at least twice as heavy. Lift one up at a TK dealer before purchasing all four.

Welcome to the community and thank you for the information. How cold does it have to be to freeze a good, fully charged wet cell battery?

    Thanks!
Where I am a cold will roll in at -25, add a windchill to make it -45. A reefer sitting outside, not running, will light up a green TK, attempt to turn over once and completely blackout. We would put them on Start/Stop at -10 and leave them for days in anticipation of loading. This is a lot more resourceful that Sleep mode as the infrequency of restarts is tenfold.

The answer, I have found, is full synthetic oil and a dry cell battery. Of course, properly rated #1 fuel. A winter grade 2 will usually suffice, but when I know it is going to be that cold, I will seek out a grade #1 just to be sure.

I have three Eon batteries in my truck for just over a year and a half now. On my second winter with them. Yes, they are friggin heavy, but my fourth battery I replaced with a Maxwell engine start module about 8 months before that and it's only 21 lbs.
The Maxwell failed after two years, so for the last three months I only had the Eons to start my truck. Fortunately it's been a decent winter, but it did get down to -14C (07F) and with an engine heater, a bunk heater and a fridge, it still started up fine. The low voltage disconnect did kick out a few mornings to kill the fridge when the engine heater fired up.
The main thing I love about Agm batteries is that they don't seem to have corrosive gases that mess up your connections. Everything stays nice and clean, even after three years all the connections look great.
Oh, and I was covered by Maxwell for the esm, but I had to wait three months for it to go through the dealers network.
