Visiting with a mechanic at my local Thermo King dealer today. The mechanic started telling me about a new battery they have out called EON.

He was telling me they use them on rail cars, and the batteries are virtually ignored forever and ever and they just last. The bad news, they cost about $270 each for the truck batteries. He was saying they wont corrode terminals or leak fluid. The cranking amperage is huge compared to regular batteries, they are not effected by temp nearly as much as wet batteries. They have a 4 year replacement warranty. Plus a 6 to 8 year life expectancy.

Was curious if any of you have had experience with these batteries yet. I wouldn't mind spending that money to put a set of 4 on my truck if they are as good as advertised.

The AGM battery in my motorcycle costs 140bucks and lasts a little over 2 years on a battery buddy. If their battery is a true AGM, I wouldnt expect it to last much over 3 years.

Google AGM (advanced glass mat) ... there's lots of good information on them

Thermo King says FULL 4 year replacement warranty. If thats true, they may be worth the price right there...

Supposedly these are some sort of AGM hybrid.

Pablo, $270 us dollars each. Thats HIGH!!! I paid $105 each for my last truck batteries.

like Kansas said, they are high. Are they worth 2 1/2 times the price of regular batteries? Do they give 2.5 times the operation and service life of regular batteries?I will stay with conventional batterys until prices get closer and more competitive.
At first sign of battery going bad, all four get replaced. Not sure if that is financially the correct way, but i try to avoid the headaches.

Thats what I thought too. But while my KW dealer sells the Exide Premium Extreme PX-31 925 (925CCA Group 31 for $78 each)
they also carry the Odyssey AGM battery like this one:

    http://www.batteryprice.com/odyssey31-pc2150t-group31battery.aspx

$377 each. Ok, but lasts 3-4x longer....isn't that still too much?

..I think it's still cheaper to buy regular batteries....and I have been told that AGM do not do very well in the extreme cold.....But...
I have no proof of that.

The 4 Exide batteries I installed back in July fired the truck just fine at 10f last month,
even after sitting for some time and NOT plugged in...

Typically I just change batteries every 3-4 years and it only costs me $320 a shot for all 4.

icsheeple and The Challenger Thank this.
