It is easy to go broke in the towing business, all it takes are a couple of jobs where the insurance company doesn't pay, or the truck was not properly insured. The towing company has to do their work without being sure they will be paid, they have equipment on standby, payroll to meet, and subcontractors to pay (roll off garbage, disposal fees, storage, etc) even if they don't get paid or get paid less than billed.

Not to go off an too much of a rant but this is why I see red when OOIDA gets on a rant about $30,000 "tow" bills. There is so much more to it, we are usually the only private business responding to these emergency calls, have to by law clean up the debris (at least in the US), and never know when the next call is coming in. It is so much more than just towing the truck away. I have done rolled over trucks without unloading the cargo to preserve it, spent over $15,000 in labor and sublet equipment, yet when I submitted the bill the insurance companies loose their minds that I want $20,000 for the job. I have done many jobs with $7,000 or more in costs only to have the owner of the truck or insurance company dump the truck on me so all I get is salvage value, and only then after going through a 90-120 day process to get the title just to scrap it.

Not sure of the exact dates, but I am pretty sure the 750 was produced from late 50 or early 60's until early 80's when the hydraulic wreckers became popular.

Actually Jamie is quite open about it, he has been interviewed a couple of times and openly says he wishes he never did the tv show, it brought too much attention to his gold mine and now there are several companies from all over Canada that come up to the Coq just for the winter. He also has said in interviews that his northern move was bad timing, right on the edge of the oil bust.

Watch as drivers like @bzinger pulls the meat of hundreds of people daily. He never has to wait his turn and sometimes the meat is already loaded and ready to go.
