All my other suggestions have been posted, like non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner or a razor blade (which scratches the paint). Don't waste your money on a product called "goo gone". Zipwax makes a label/adhesive remover, not sure if it works or not, I just remember seeing it on the shelf

A previous company I worked for did use a heat gun, but that requires electricity. And if you don't have a plug nearby or an apu with a big inverter (1500+ watts), than that option isn't possible

Perhaps another portable option: I have one of these, it has a removable tip that covers the flame, but allows the heat to still pass through. It can be used for melting plastics, etc.

Battleship grey spray primer. PSSSST> All gone.

More modern way would be to use a orange based acid cleaner and a razor blade, gently.

Acetone peels them right off, carry a bottle of nail polish remover.

    Heat.
Done it with tankcontainers in winter.
But i was lucky ,where i loaded they had steam.
A heatgun will also do the trick.
Ps steam works great to get them off too.

The first time you get a citation for an improperly placarded load because you didn't want to stick them on, sticking them on will look good.

I've had them get obliterated in rain storms, or tear or blow out of the holders. Been lucky and found it before bear did.

I always peel and stick. If your in freezing weather, alcohol or brake cleaner/ water mix where your going to stick them when you get to the shipper.

Company trailer? Hatchet job with a scraper, screw driver, what ever.
Your own trailer? Plastic razor blade, they sell them at NAPA for removing decals, and some brake cleaner/ water mix.

In any event, it only takes a sliver of one, and the wrong DOT to ruin your day and then some.
