I find it funny, not really, that we have CDL licenses that I thought where all tied into each other thru Fed. Gov. but each state has a different way of testing for them.

How can you do a pre-trip on a computer?? And then have someone else say “Oh I pre-tripped the truck so that driver does not need to do one” before they do their driving test??

I know it is not TX but here in CT we have to do a drop & hook (inspec. area first), air brake bleed down and build test (about 12 parts to it), trailer & tractor brake test, in cab, under hood & outside pre-trip. Then we have straight back, ally dock & parallel park. You must pass all that before you can do the on road test. So if you flatten the 5[SUP]th[/SUP] wheel when you were to KISS it during a hook you failed your test and lost $30 and need to re-take the full test again.

    Good luck on your testing.

the "test" here in Texas really wasn't what i had expected either. yes the pre-trip part is written. directly from the Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver's Handbook. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/internetforms/Forms/DL-7C.pdf

THE EXAMINER is responsible for the pre-trip.

pre-trip is NOT listed anywhere there. pages iv and v . done here. look it up yourselves.

Well what actually happened is the examiner checked all the outside lights, then got in the truck and I did the air brake tests, I got out and retrieved the chocks and away we went.

I just finished my 3 week classes at C1 TRUCK DRIVER TRAINING, before we could even get in truck we had to do a pre-trip inspection test that had you (the student) and instructor go out to the tractor trailer and do a complete pre trip inspection from front of the tractor to the rear of the the trailer you had to point at every piece and describe what defects you will be looking for, and had to do this from memory took bout 25 mins to do the whole pre-trip inspection and two 4 point break test and a tug test.... And the same way when u went to take you state test

The same in Manitoba about 10 years ago.

If I remember right, 25 minutes for the pretrip, 20 for the air brake and another 20-30 minutes driving.

All that done mid December at freaking -10. No shortcuts, no mercy from the instructor or tester.

Well, the tester, she ran ahead of me. She was waiting at end of the trailer while I was still explaining the dollies and crank handle.
Maybe she wanted to get in the warm cab. Students can be cruel and slow sometimes.
