Hi Everyone,
I had a quick question - I always see different terms/numbers associated with a given load and was wondering if anyone could explain what each one means, when they are used, what they mean, etc. Here is a list of the terms I've seen. Any guidance would help. Thanks in advance!
- BOL Number
- Seal Number
- P.O. Number
- Load Number
- Reference Number
- Order Number
Terms for referencing a load

P.O. Number is the purchase Order Number generated by the buyer of a given product to reconcile with when the product arrives
Load Number varies in the context, typically as was mentioned, the unique shipment number as pertains to a given carrier i.e. every load dispatched to a driver has a Load number (sometimes called a pro number) for reference inside the carrier's business/billing operations.
Reference Number also varies according to context. Can be assigned in the appointment phase to a pending arrival, or it can refer to a host of other things
Order Number is usually the unique number generated by a manufacturer or shipper to assign to the product ordered by a customerdominic23 Thanks this.
