So I am planning on getting into the trucking buisness and I got to wondering what some of the terminology and acronyms are? I know its a pretty noobish question, but like they say. The only stupid question is the one that dosnt get asked.

Thanks for asking that question, I still have no clue to what P&O means. There should be a sticky for all the acronyms used on this site for us clueless folk.

You must mean P&D which is a type driver in the LTL industry. It stands for Pickup and Delivery. Linehaul drivers move the freight usually at night in between terminals and the P&D drivers do the P&D with the customers.

Now what does LTL stand for? :)

Companies like UPS, FedEx, Conway, YRC, Old Dominion, Central Transport, etc.

Those are the better paying truck driving jobs and home every day.

UPS and FedEx are not LTL companies, they are package delivery companies, strictly dealing with small packages. UPS Freight and FedEx Freight are traditional LTL carriers, hauling single pallets, crates, skids and drums, above the weight and size limits of the package delivery companies. Many of the LTL drivers are not home every night, but have a layover at another terminal. Even back in the '60s, my next door neighbor was a Big R driver, out of Harrisburg, PA. If he went to Philadelphia, he turned it in one day. But, if he went to Akron, OH, they put him in a motel in Akron, then sent him back to Harrisburg when his 8 hour break was up.

Auxilary Power unit, a small diesel engine that provides power to batteries and heat or cooling to the cabin while you rest. Uses about 1 gallon in 8 hrs.
