i go to a lot of Union jobsites in nyc and Boston and philly. Never had an issue.
Talking with a new prospect and they need a union truck to deliver to sites in the city....... So while I never had a problem on site, it occurs to me the likelihood of many other guys having a union card and doing the kind of work they want done is slim to none.
Anyone been a union member while being an independent OO?
Please leave your opinions on unions to another thread-I have my own and don't need them.
Just want info on how that works...?

I was at a Canadian carrier that had us o/o's in the union. It started out because of some company they bought out, and we used that to get into the breweries.
Nobody ever actually asked to see my card.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
@DougA might know, I remember him saying he was a teamster o/op with CF back in the day

Often wondered about this myself....
Got 10 years in .... -
Teamsters has/had a carhaul owner operator division from back in the days when only union carriers could haul new units for the big 3. I imagine they would still take you money if you needed a card that for that gig, just have to be sure it is paying well enough for the extra expense. @Hammer166 or @SLANT6 may know more about the o/o Teamster thing than I do.

There was a guy who was on the pipeline deal I did, that had to join for a job in Mn. and Mi.. I believe, there was a deal that he just had the card and pays dues without the benefits.. As much I hate say this, call the local hall and talk with them... They might have an idea

Plus an old friend of mine got a card from the operating engineers so he could ld. machines if no operator there.

I was going to be a smarta ss but I am actually glad you asked that question. I believe an OOIDA membership and sticker on your truck would work as they are as close to a union as we have. It would make sense if we would all get together and agree on rates rather then the brokers dictating them to us. Like nothing moves for less the $2.00 a mile plus FSC, tolls, and lumpers.

When l first started hauling steel we were teamsters. We all the logo on the side of our trucks. Sometimes it seemed to help going into union shops. Sometimes it hindered when you went into a non union shop. I know l was never asked to cross a picket line. That was ok with me lol

you prob have to have a shovel & be able to move bodies..
I just had to put that in there. I have a twin who is v.p. & secretary treasure of the teamsters in chicago. one time while he was here in my town for a funeral, we had about 12 volunteers & 12 shovels to cover the grave, some one asked where did all the shovels come from, I said they came from the truck of my brothers car.kemosabi49, passingthru69, Terry270 and 3 others Thank this.
