What kind of trailer are you running?
How many miles a week do you avg?
How many miles can a team legally drive?
Do have a contract, use loadboards, or both?
I'm researching this topic and can't seem to find any info anywhere. I
tried the other threads but they are full of teams who are leased to
someone. I would like to hear from the teams who are own their own
like I plan to be really soon. If any.....
Thanks..

I too have been researching this and like you,,can not find definitive answers on the subject, other than companys that you Teams can drive for or lease to.
There is nothing I have come accross concerning Team O/O with own authority and have posted a few questions on here regarding that subject, but nothing.
I have found one company that you can have your own authority as a team and run for and that is RRTS (RoadRunner Transportation Systems). You pull loads for them and have to also find your own loads. I have not looked at Load Boards for more than a minute so and have been told they do not contain Team frieght but I still think a Team could make money if they worked it right.
It seems to me that Owning your own truck wouldn't be a problem but it would have to be leased onto a company but you would be relying on them for the loads,,,that is what I want to get away from.
Thanks for the thread and I pray someone knows the answers...

I'd like to see some answers to this as well....as soon as I get my CDL done, my bro in law and I are talking going Team O/O....we have a couple leads on a dedicated round tripper, but it isn't set in stone ya know?

I've come across tons of Husband/Wife teams over the years (O/O's). A lot of furniture and munitions drivers as well as independents. Most have years of experience and shipper contacts, or, are set up with a trusted broker they use. All the revenue goes into the household kitty. Teams can run out of hours, so experienced teams know how to use their logbooks and hours etc to their advantage. They'll usually run hard for a month and take a week off. Next time you see a pretty KW independant, look hard, probably a husband/wife O/O.

How about talking to some of the local carriers that run a lot of time-sensitive team loads. A lot of these are constantly looking for drivers to take their loads. They might be willing to work with you and act as a broker for you so you can keep your own authority and control.
The purpose of team driving is to run time-sensitive deliveries. These loads are usually acquired through established contracts since the shippers want to have a level of assurance that you will perform and written contracts are the only type of assurance for this sort of thing.
Go to your local Motor Carrier compliance assistance company and ask them for contacts of companies that run like this, then talk to those companies and make some friends to give you some guidance. Sign a non-compete agreement if it makes them feel better.
Reason why you don't find many answers on these is because most O/O's don't run team under their own authority unless they're beyond the O/O title and are now full fleet owners. The beauty of being an O/O is the flexibility to make your own choices. Able to run or rest whenever you need to. The team concept is that the truck NEVER STOPS MOVING. A 24/7 operation (within HOS limits of course). That is not the purpose for most O/O's, including the hubby/wife teams.
For smaller/local carriers leasing on to them is not nearly as strict as the nationwide big guys and you can usually say when you don't want to run. But you also can't dictate when you do get to run." OPTIMUS PRIME " and SheepDog Thank this. -
Thanks Nootherids.
I appreciate what you are saying. I understand full well why O/O's become O/O's and that is what I want. Not so much the power to shut down when I want but the control over the frieght, more than anything. I don't really have a problem leasing onto a carrier except for the fact that my wife and I will be depending on their loads. I will take your advice and look into local carriers.
Thanks again,,Nootherids Thanks this. -
