Is there such a thing as getting a job to drive a tanker even a smaller one with no experience. I have a Class A license but no trailer experience. I'm in Central Florida/Orlando area. I have experience with straight trucks.

schneider and Prime are two starter companies with tanker divisions. So im sure you can. Get your hazmat endorsement.
Some folks dont recommend it. Like doubles and triples, they roll over easier.Bama Roadrunner and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
There are even tanker straight trucks which takes care of septic tanks here and there. We had one show up a few years routinely until one day they rolled it. (What a mess) but they bought a new one and continued to remove the sewage. Eventually we destroyed the failed septic and hooked to the local waste network at a fairly steep expense. Which improved our situation overall in that old home.
Tankers are fun. I started off with bulk cement. And if I had stayed there long enough I would have gone gasoline or av gas or whatever. (That was not to be for a newbie based stupid mistake on my part...) And the training I was given then was still good today. I can probably take and unload a bulk load in a hour anywhere. Its not difficult. (I am the one who is difficult thanks to the State School back then combined with demanding parents who refuse to accept paper homework written in 2+2=4. They wanted me to prove it was four. One day I got angry and bought a toy abacus to school. They asked that question again. Plopped it on my desk and said this is 3000 year old Chinese Math problem. 1,2,3 and 4. Done. Any other stupid questions?
That earned me detention for a hour that day but they backed off on it. -
Comcar may have some type of program for you.

I started on tankers.
be the guy driving a vac tanker sucking grease from Buffalo Wild Wings. No one wants that job but it’s how I started.
or try and get a good job right off the bat lol.VIDEODROME, JForce28, BR-549 and 2 others Thank this. -
Whether you ever pull tanker trailers, make sure to get the tanker endorsement on your license. It is required for a lot of freight that rides inside dry vans/reefer and even rides on flatbeds. It's an easy computer test. Why volunteer to be locked out of certain freight over the $30 is might cost to take a test in an office?FlaSwampRat and TravR1 Thank this. -

Been looking at Sunoco’s Crude Oil Driver (Texas) openings and the basic req include:
• Minimum of one year verifiable oil field experience
OR
• Two years over the road driving experience
OR
• Graduate of an accredited truck driving school (aka NO EXPERIENCE)
Pretty sure they don’t operate in FL but at least it’s somewhat of an indication that some other tanker companies do hire straight outta school with no exp.
Here’s the link to the jobs that did come up in TX & OK:

Schneider sometimes pays for a refresher course; might do it for you.
Schneider has a tanker division.
