Any tanker drivers out there with their own athority? I see custom trucks with custom tankers and I was wondering if it's common for tanker O/Os to run their own athority like load boards, direct customers etc?

Schneider has their choice program for tankers. Im having a hard time finding direct customers who are interested in a single truck.
Im still a company driver, and we are a common carrier and used alot of brokers.
Im not sure of how mich direct freight we have. Ive seen sone chemical load on bulk load boards and the brokers said that while the majority of loads were dry bulk, they could keep me busy and making money hauling liquid, but I beleive alot was food grade. I prefer chemicals

My boss and myself (he's the O/O)and one other guy haul for a dedicated company; asphalt. No, we are not their only haulers, as they are a huge company . . . but I've been on this account for six years. It's do-able. Boss did it himself for many years prior, before adding myself and John on to the "fleet." He's got a few Petes in his barn and it works well for all of us.

ps: Yes, he owns the Etnyre trailers, as well.

I think chemicals would be tough to get into with 1 truck. Look into asphalt, animal fat from plants to chicken and pet feed mills,my brother in law works on his own authority he does waste water from a mid size city treatment plant to farms they use for fertilizer on hay fields. He only travels a 50 mile radius makes in the $2500 to $3000 range a week usually only uses 1 tank of fuel a week.Doesnt work when it rains tho.

^^^^^ Hauling asphalt pays really well. Especially THIS time of year, busy as YKW. As soon as the rain quits, it will get even busier. States /counties repairing pot-holes from the winter and rain, we are always delivering. More than we can handle, almost!

I run gas tankers leased on to a company
I have talked to a couple companies and could get the work to stay busy but I could never afford the insurance
