Hi all. I've been driving since Feb 2012. I started in reefer over the road and did that for 4 years. Now I drive tanker locally, home every night pulling hazmat ( oil, diesel, gasoline) In theBoston, Mass area. I'm really tired of winter up here specially when it snows.
I've heard that Texas is a good place with good opportunities in the trucking industry. I've been looking at tanker jobs on craiglist and thereseems to have some jobs available and the pay looks like the same as up here.
I don't mind doing something else such as Dump truck although I have 0 experience in that.
So, I figured This may be the best place to askabout local jobs in the Dallas area.
Any of you guys out there could give me a fewpointers of how it is really like to work and live in this area?
Thanks in advance!!

Indeed.com is what I use. My current employer found my resume on Indeed.com and called. I live in Mississippi so can't help with much more. Search the threads in here. I'm sure you will find more info. Good luck!

Dallas has far fewer tanker jobs than Houston. So if you are just moving to Texas just because and you have no attachment, pick Houston.
With that said, Dallas is a hard city to get around. The roads aren't designed the best and a lot of it is currently under construction. I lived in Fort Worth the majority of my life and I honestly cannot think of a reason why someone should pick Dallas to live. Dallas to Denton for instance, will actually make you laugh that someone came up with the design for that stretch of highway.
Dallas is hot in the summer and usually mild during the winter. The famous spring storms usually miss Dallas, not always but usually. Housing isn't too terrible. Again, to me it's a pretty crappy city and not one I would wish to live in. But to each his own.Chirt, Just passing by and Chinatown Thank this. -
A&R Logistics has two facilities in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex and Houston. This is dry bulk non-hazmat.
Dozens of other tanker jobs in that area. Others that live there will give you good advice.
Also, along the Gulf Coast of Texas from Houston to Corpus Christi is loaded with dozens of tanker outfits.Chirt and Just passing by Thank this. -
As far as jobs, Schwerman and C. C Cobb have terminals near Dallas. Both of those are good companies. Groendyke does as well. There is a Schneider terminal there and you can drive Bulk with them. Trimac has a small yard there that is mainly for owner operators but they hire some company drivers as well.

Thank you all for the quick replies. Please keep them coming! and yes, it does not have to be Dallas. I'm thinking about big cities or so because of my wife's job. She's graduating in the psychology area. Houston sounds good too..

@ethos mentioned Groendyke; I've talked to several of their drivers at chemical plants in Houston area and they all like the company. I've also delivered to some of the same places where Bulkmatic delivers and those drivers were content and making good money.
Anything you want in tankers is in Houston area. -
Again, the list of tanker companies that are not in Houston would be shorter than the the ones that are there. Your wife will also have an easier time finding work. Houston is massive, much bigger than Dallas.Chirt Thanks this. -
