Is it usually easier to back into a tight spot with the tandems slid forward or all the way back?

Forward! In tight spots, and on curvy roads, always close it up. If your tandems are to the rear you will always need more room to manuever.

I would say all the way forward otherwise you may not have enough room.Ive delivered places you have to have your tandems forward just to get to the docks.

Just watch your swing when you pull out of a tight spot. The overhang from the trailer might take a mirror with you.

As with all things, I would say it depends. If you have limited space to set up outside the hole, (I assume that was the question) slide them up. If the hole itself is tight (I know I know) like say closely spaced dock doors with a crooked white Volvo on one side, it may be safer to slide them back and eliminate swing

    You dirty dirty man.

I know a majority of places will require tandems all the way back for safe loading/unloading purposes. But if you have the choice id put them forward.

I will usually have them in the meat hole or farther forward when backing in somewhere and before I actually bump the dock. Will slide them to the rear if the place requires it. Ive been to plenty of places where I have to slide them back at the guard shack and then just go around the corner and slide them forward again to drop the trailer or bump a dock. Shoot, sometimes I just ask nicely to not have to slide them at thr gate and promise to ensure theyre all the way back before I disconnect! Never been an issue and it makes it so much easier to back.

Home Depot DC's require tandems back before entering the yard. It doesn't matter to me where the tandems are. As long as I got a good setup, I'll get it in the hole.
