I worked for Tandem Transport for a little over 3 years and thought some of you might like to know a little about them. First the bad. If you plan to drive a flatbed get ready to work hard it takes a lot of time to pick up, load, strap, tarp, drive and deliver in 24 hours. I used to get 4-5 hours sleep a night and most loads were over 400 miles. And flatbed loads can get ya pretty dirty. As for those of you that want tthe big straps always keep 8-10 of the 2 inch straps they come in very very handy on certain loads. Now the good news.....................money, money, money yes boys n girls tandem pays the big bucks but ya gotta work for it, keep them wheels turning if i stayed out weekends i would gross 12 to 1400 skins a week and that was in 1998 when i quit. You do get choice of loads if you call in early. I would just tell em give me the longest run ya got thats where the money is. If it not for getting older I would go back. They have a party every Christmas and hand out money like candy. I was a trainer the last year i worked there and made extra every week but training sucks I would rather run solo. If you are a new driver they will train you but its hard to get used to the driving/sleeping part. most trainers want to run like a team so they make more money. It does get so much better when you get your own truck but like I said be prepared to work hard. If any of you go with them stick it out for at least 6 months and follow the routes in the direction book they give you everything will be fine and you will smile all the way to the bank. Oh yeah they have very nice trucks and take great care of them. Their trucks are normaly replaced with a new one every 3-4 years. After I was with em 1 year I was given a new 1998 freightshaker.

one more thing ....they also have great insurance

any recent info on tandem still a good company?

Weird about the big bucks. I just recently talked to a driver that had just started working for them for ........ .34 CPM which seems absurd for all the work that goes into flatbed work. 12-14 hundred a week seems far fetched........there needs to be some elaboration on their pay.

Pictak if you worked for them for 3 yrs and stop working in 1998 then how did you get a 1998 truck your 1 year? Just checking what you wrote.

That was ten years ago when the economy was in good shape.....most companies have tightened there purse strings over the last years or so.

i worked for tandem foe just over a year, first six months was fine, made good money avg gross about 1,100 a week and home weekends.about 7 months in getting home weekends was getting irreagular and started getting less miles. about 10 months geeting home was like pulling teeth and was averaging about 2,00o miles a week then 1800 and so on and was staying out weekends. there favorite thing was to give you a load on friday that delivered on monday and was just over 300 miles away.i called the main office in michigan city once and complainend, everything was good for 2 weeks and then de ja vu. i took my vacation an left while on vacation, took my truck back to the terminal turned in all issued equipment. they are refusing to pay me my vacation pay now. stating i didnt qualify for a paid vacation, everything i have says paid vacation after 1 year

i worked for tandem transport for just over a year. no problems for my first 7 or 8 months, i was paid 42 cents a mile and was grossing about 1.100 a week. worked hard but not bad money.equipment was old but it ran ok. i was home useually late fri or early sat. then i started getting home late sat less miles. then started getting home every other weekend to once a month. miles steady dropping off and was not getting tarp pay regular.there favorite trick to keep u up north was to give you a load friday afternoon that delivered on monday and was only 250 to 300 miles away(i worked out of there Savannah Ga, Terminal).when i left i was lucky to get 1700 miles a week staying out weekends. i quit while on vacation. took my truck back to savannah and turned in all issued equipment, now there refusing me my vacation pay saying i didnt qualify. everything i have says paid vcation after 1 year. going to the labor board to file a complaint, hope it works

I drove for Tandem for about 7 months, lots of flatbed experience before that. Been off the road for a while, working in construction. If the money is there I'm thinking about a return. Left on good terms, also checking on Cypress.
