I drove a Peterbilt 379 log truck in Oregon for five years before moving to Texas. For almost three years now I have driven my Pete 379 in the Texas oilfields. I recently got my endorsement for heavy haul/ overweight loads. I plan to sell the Pete and buy a truck capable of hauling VERY heavy loads (200,000-600,000 lbs). I have been looking at several different models and I think I have decided on a Kenworth T800 4-axle Heavy hauler. Here is what I have found so far-
Kenworth T800 4-axle heavy haul w/42" modular sleeper, C-15 CAT @ 550 HP, , 20,000front / 46,000 rears, factory full length double steel frame, 18 speed Eaton, lockers & Jake. BED SYSTEM: Braden 80,000lb main winch, Full interior control console (Air over Hyd. controls), Heavy Duty bed construction, Full width adjustable Tail Roll, Heavy Duty Oilfield Tapered chrome box front bumper w/ cast front tow hook & fog lamps, Stainless steel visor & permit panels, Dual chrome air cleaners, Dual chrome exhaust stacks, Dual chrome air horns, Dual cab mount amber strobe lights, Dual 120 gallon polished aluminum fuel tanks w/ heavy duty 7" stainless steel straps, Polished aluminum wheels all around, Arctic package (300 watt oil pan heater, 1500 watt coolant heater, 160 amp alternator, 2800 CCA batteries & cab insulation kit), AM/FM/CD/WB premium audio system w/ Sirius satellite module, Cobra 29 CB radio, Power windows, locks & mirror, Tilt/telescopic steering wheel, Slate gray "Diamond" interior package w/ air ride drivers seat, Multi-Function digital information center, Complete instrument and gauge package, Fully locking rear differentials, Wide track rear axles, Jake brake, Full length double steel frame, Dual power steering motors, Electric back up alarm, LED marker & turn signal lights.
Is this setup enough to haul loads of this size?

No it's not. To run that kind of weight get a Tri Drive PLUS either an auxilliary tranny or at least 2 speed rear ends. The tri drive rears will be rated at 69,000. But 600,000 ???? You will need panetaries.

i got to talk to a driver today grossing out at 380,000 he was running a 625HP cummins 18 speed
20k front 20k tag and 46k rears 2 speed, 4.56 low ratio and 3.73 high ratio..
and he also had a pusher/brake truck with him to push him up the hills and help slow him down the other side
the push truck was almost the same except he had a 10k tag
trucks were W900 -
I didn't realize there was an endorsement for heavy loads. As far as I was aware the endorsements one could get on there CDL were HM, Tank, Doubles/Triples, and passenger. Albeit that is in GA.

Are these trucks your finding from Camex Equipment?
They've got plenty of T800 and C500's in stock
$317,000 CND -

By the way, that should be a 3 position Jake.
If you're looking at Camex, I work for them. -
The C500 is the "real" heavy haulers machine.

Sorry to use the wrong term. Not an endorsement, just a road test with the company I work for. Went from hauling flatbeds loaded with pipe, drill fittings, etc. to hauling the bigger, heavier loads on 3 and 4-axle RGN lowboys. I am planning on selling my Pete 379 as it just does not have the heavy haul capabilities I need.
