Hi, I need help troubleshooting an engine fan that won't turn off. Usually when I start the engine its off but after 30 seconds or so it will turn on even when the engine is cold. A/C is turned off.

The switch for the fan is in the off position, toggling it doesn't change anything, I checked the fuse and the fuse is good, what should I look for next?

Check the fan solenoid which should be mounted above the front engine cover with a air line going in and out of it.

Check the water temp sensor make sure it's good as well. If it goes bad it defaults to "fan on"
Easiest way to check what's giving it a signal is through Insite. But as said above, your fan solenoid could also be bad. Best way to check that is to remove the power from the switch.

Sounds like high side a/c switch is bad. Insite is best bet to find out quickly. You can turn a/c switch off and you can monitor any temp. sensor that is reading out of range. Ex. your intake temp. might be reading 200 degrees. ECM does not sense a faulty sensor, just thinks that the intake temp. is too high so turns on engine fan.

So I unplugged the fan solenoid and the fan turned off. Does that mean the solenoid is bad or could it still be the AC or water temp sensors?

The sensors tell the ECM when to turn on the fan according to the parameters that are set.

The ECM turns on the fan by energizing the solenoid.

If the solenoid is staying on, than the solenoid is bad.
