Really, how bad is it? I keep hearing horror stories but never having worked for them myself I am not sure, I keep seeing ads for them hiring urgently and them hosting job fairs. I wonder if they’re in desperate need because the horror stories are true, or is it because no one wants to work anymore. Anyone have experience with them? I believe US foods is also hiring here. Any input is appreciated, and no I don’t mind touch freight, I understand that’s a big part of it.

Food service is a very physically demanding job…unloading hundreds of cases of product on your route..many loaders dont always load the trailer based on stop order at times creating a nightmare of sorting through cases on trl at each stop…if you can deal with all that and are in decent shape, you can make very good money at it.

Your trailer loaded floor to ceiling with boo-coo packages all different sizes and weight. In theory, loaded in order, but, loaders have to get everything on. Matching the product with the paperwork, can you say "fun" ? Then you get to manuever your truck as close as possible to the receiving door dodging 4 wheelers etc.

I know someone who handled injuries for them on the medical side. One driver was hurt and they still made him drive 40 miles to work and his light duty was just pulling staples out of paperwork 8 hours a day.
Touch freight, turnover, lots of hours or odd shifts, bringing large semi truck to small businesses.hotrod1653, Another Canadian driver, Lonesome and 3 others Thank this. -
Slung groceries for 2 years, you can make 100k but its going to be rough. I wasn't at sysco thou. You will probably get a bad route starting off, lower pay from cases n miles or over loaded trailer. Or the extra board, which means your on call. If so I would ask if they have your next route when you get back to the yard or hang around the phone waiting for a phone call.
If done properly, everything is labeled, can be scanned and which pallets its on. If not happy hunting.
You get an address, you figure out how to get there, where you can park and which door to deliver at is something you find out. Getting caught down a no truck road is a ticket for you. Backing off a main road or into traffic is probably going to happen.
Up and down the ramp with full handcart of food is hard for the first month or two but gets easier.
Most customers are nice unless its very busy.
If you ever deliver to a prison, leave everything in the truck and lock both doors! NEVER hand an inmate a smoke unless you want to join them.Dwellsouth, Another Canadian driver, nextgentrucker and 4 others Thank this. -
I just would do it long enough to get an LTL or line haul job really. Don’t plan to make a career out of it. Anyone have experience with us foods?

I have a very good friend who worked for Coke for almost 20 years and made the switch to Sysco for the money and based on what he says, it is the nightmare you imagine it is. He’s been in this sector of trucking his whole career and says it is the most physically demanding job he’s ever had, poor guy is currently at home rehabbing a completely blown out knee from one mis-step out of a loaded trailer, torn ACL and meniscus. So yes, I would say it’s as tough as youve heard it is.

You know what's funny?
If you go with a dude that's done it 20 years, they make it look so simple.
I saw this at a union house, so he had a good route, but still, guy was too good at it.
Money's good. Just go put in the time and work.Another Canadian driver, nextgentrucker, JolliRoger and 1 other person Thank this.
