My question: Does Swift really pay well? Recruiter said 1800$ average weekly with a 34 reset you take at home. Is this real or not? They offered a regional route to me in California. What are your thoughts?

I’m a recent grad with about 20K miles experience. The issue I’m having with the current employer is they push teams on you in the guise of training. But there really is barely any training going on. (Haven’t had the chance to back barely and that’s my weak point.)
They want you to do a minimum of 50K miles and I don’t know if I can handle another two months or more in this situation.

I’ve been thinking of switching to another company and just pay for the training I got from them and get out the contract. I’m currently out of California but I can technically move for a good job. Doesn’t have to be Swift. So if you have any other recommendations for me they are welcome too. Thank you for your help in advance!

Each person's experience is different. I found Swift to be a very corrupt company. In the case of Swift, they seem to have more lawsuits than most or all of other companies filed against them.
Not too long ago I decided to go back and drive with them just to get back into trucking for a dabble. I had driven for them a decade earlier for a couple years. This time I only lasted a few months.
This time they had the electronic nannies monitoring my behaviors, and I managed to pick up quite a lot of points. However, many of the points were due to my somehow not figuring out how to use the electronic log to log my pretrips. I kept logging them, but they would not show up as logged and I would get safety-flagged. Strangely, some of the pretrips would log, and some would not—when I was doing the same thing in either case.
I kept asking my driver manager to tell me what I was doing wrong, and he simply said he didn't know. I could not find anyone to train me, especially when I was away from a terminal a lot, so eventually I got so many points that, along with a few legitimate points (like going faster than 62 on a downhill where the speed limit was 70!) that I risked getting fired. So I quit only after about 4 months.
But here's the catch: when I tried to collect unemployment, they told the unemployment agency that I quit voluntarily, and under no threat of termination. Just so I would not qualify for the payments, I think. However, when I shortly applied for another company (Werner) they told that company that I was fired for safety reasons. They also went back into my DAC and somehow amended my previous 2.5 years of service into "would not rehire" (obviously not so because they themselves rehired me) from the prior status of "satisfactory service" it had previously been listed as on that DAC for the prior 10 years.

Werner thought I was an application liar, so they didn't like me from then on. But I had assumed that what Swift said to the unemployment agency was what was agreed as my reason between the both of us. And in fact, it was the reason. In fact, I did give them ten days' notice when I quit, and they gave me various additional runs in several directions before eventually routing me to the terminal on my last day. Didn't sound like they were so scared of my driving to me. I can be perfectly honest in saying that in that 4 months of driving, I drove better than I ever have, and didn't make one bona fide "safety" mistake that even came close to putting me into an accident. There were mere technical mistakes picked up by the dash cam, but never did I actually do anything even close to a near-miss or what could cause an accident by any stretch.

My first company was swift ,on a dedicated account “costco “ I was making 15-1600 a week easy gross 2 years ago so i could see 1800 easily and don’t worry about training if your new they should give you a trainer that will help you learn the ropes especially if you need it

I was a CDL instructor about 12-15 years ago and biggest complaint I heard about Swift from former students was not getting enough miles. But the plus side was since they got their CDL BEFORE they went there, they werent trapped into slavery. They could leave without having to pay them for their wonderful "training".

    • Ask how they arrived at the $1,800 amount? Does it include bonus or accessorial pays?
    • Are you paid by mileage, hourly, % or trip?
    • Find out what your base rate of pay will be without bonuses
    • When do bonuses kick in and what do you have to do to get them?
    • What will your schedule be?
    • What accounts do they have in your area?
    • Do they pay detention time - when and how much?
    • Do they pay breakdown pay and how much?
Keep a notebook and list the companies that you talk to and write down the answers that you get. Find out if any of them will back their promises in writing. Talk to someone in operations. Write down the names of the people that you talk to. Companies that will not give you answers or names....Kick to the curb!

I was a swift driver about 16 months ago and I can say that what the recruiter told me ($1400/wk) before I signed up, was really close to what I actually made. But I was on a dedicated account and maximized the use of my hours as much as possible. A lot of guys didn't. 2 guys that went through the "academy" with me went otr and really really struggled to make any really money (according to them).

Yes know the feeling only to well bud, we used MT Data which monitor your speeds according to company specifications, out MT data was set up so even if you did 1 km per hour over the limit it would ping you, however fortunately for us the manager did not worry to much about overspeeds provided it was in the first sector, some would go out and get 100 over speeds in a day, there were 4 zones, the first was 1 - 3 km over the limit, second zone was 4 - 5 km over the limit, 3 rd zone was 6 - 8 km over the limit and the 4 th zone was anything more than 9 km per hour over the limit which could only happen if you did not brake down a hill. A driver caught speeding in the fourth zone got an automatic call up to please explain. Unless they could prove that the brakes failed it was generally a warning don't do it again or you'll be given notice of dismissal. Yes it does seem unfair that your getting penalized for speeding when your not actually braking any posted speeds, rather only braking the company max set speeds.
