Does anyone know what the current load/unload pay rate is? I tried asking them at the terminal here in SLC and was told I had to talk to a DL. I sent a msg to my terminal in Lewiston and was told I would have to wait until Monday to find out. It seems odd to me this information is not readily available. I know the person who answered my msg is the same person who dispatches me and answers other questions. Is this top secret?

Forgive the spelling error in the title. I went to public school.

Don't you just love how companies give you the run around for a simple question.

    I think it is $25.
Let me know what you find out.

But it happens so rarely. I think I have had only 2, in over two years.
And they were both very easy. Things like pushing fiberglass bathtubs to the back of the trailer, and I can't even remember what the other one was.
But, I'm lazy. I try to avoid driver unload pplans.

I went to public school as well.
Let me know if you find any errors because I never learned to proof-read.

    Hey!
They are just like the next guy...
Trying to make a buck without going broke in the process.

(and, to be fair, I do have a couple gripes)

But, to be fair, they have not been anything but up front.
I know exactly what to expect, and I know pretty much what I can get away with.
So, it is a game we both play.
It is a delicate balance of me for me, the company for the company, me for the company and the company for me.

In ALL fairness, we both work - hopefully - to our mutual advantage.
And in the past 2 years working with Swift, that is exactly what I have experienced.

im sure there are many good people in their system, and certainly many good drivers...not trying to imply that everyone who works for swift is bad. and in their defense, my experience with them is only what ive read here and in the news. my conclusions about the company are based on three things.
    1. the drivers they used a phillips head on in tennessee a few years ago. fbi and dot raided their company school there and suspended licenses of around 9k drivers based on substandard training/testing. the moral thing to do wouldve been to refund all or at least part of the tuition. that didnt happen. instead, a class action lawsuit was necessary.
    2. their new policies that force drivers to log 30 minutes minimum for pretrip and to log on duty time at shippers/receivers. again, to be fair, that ive learned only through here...suppose it could be false. but if true, this amounts to theft of service.
    3. paying hhg miles. while its not just them, it is legal theft of 10% of the average driver's earned pay.

    1. I don't kow a lot about that. Too much hearsay.

    2. I don't always log a full 30 minutes, and I have never been called on it. 15 minutes minimum, and I usually try to log very close to 30.
I have been logging a bit more at shippers/receivers. Usually around 30 minutes, and I let the clock run full time if I am drop/hook.
But I've yet to log on-duty for several hours while sitting there for loading/unloading, and I've yet to get called on it.

    3. That is one of the gripes I had mentioned earlier. Sometimes the miles are within around 5% or closer (and I have no problem with that), and sometimes they are more like 20% off - and (almost) always to my disadvantage. A recent load paid 520 loaded miles, but it was actually closer to 620 miles.
The times it has been to my advantage the difference has been in the 10-20 mile range. Like, 1 or 2%.
But when I have called them on a load that paid 20% less, they have adjusted the miles in my favor. (split the difference kind of thing)

But still, I get home times when and where I request (and it's never the same place twice in a row) with minimal problems. I am usually there within 1 day +/- of the requested date.
They put up with my high idle times, even though it is mentioned each month and I have been written up for it once.
I can control my own time on loads, and adjust pick up and delivery times, to some extent.

It seems that they work with me more to the measure that I work with them.
And that is the way of Life, I think.

well, then perhaps in regard to 2 i am misinformed. and maybe theyve changed their pay in regard to hhg miles (i was paid hhg miles by usa truck when i 1st started..i realize it was accepted practice. hopefully enough lawsuits have changed that through most of the industry. its deplorable. i drove about 11% more than i was paid for when averaged out for the time i was with them..and it was not because i went way out of route. im not including any significant out of route miles in that figure). but i cant get past number 1. and that is not based on hearsay, but on several news articles written on the subject.

but again, there are undoubtedly many many good people in their employ. even at higher levels. its solely the highest levels that make unethical decisions that i take issue with.

and just so im clear on your take of number 2...you say there is NOT a specific policy in place that requires drivers to log a minimum of 30 minutes for pre trip and to log all time spent at shippers/receivers as on duty time? cause i gotta be honest, thats the thing that sent me over the edge on them, turning them in my mind from less savory typical mill company to crooks.
