I recently graduated from the Swift Academy out in Phoenix, my class began with 34 people and the last week when it was time for the road training and CDL we were with only 14 left, some left due to failed drug test, some because of document issues they blamed on the recruiter and some people just could not pass permit test or evaluations up to the point. Because of a lot of these things I decided I wanted to write about my experience, I also list the documents you need to make sure to have when you arrive so you don't get sent home and what to expect during your time there and more. I also wrote about the living conditions you must go through the best I could. I wrote my story and its on Google Play and I also created a sub domain on my site where I also list the sites I used to practice my permit test. Only myself and one other person passed the permit test on the first day so I would recommend studying, I actually studied about a hour a day for a month before I went and I aced the test.
Read my story if you like but I encourage you to ask all the questions you can to your recruiter, don't blame them if they forget to tell you something. I called my recruiter several times with questions, but don't bug them too much since they are dealing with a ton of recruits BUT they are there to make money so make sure you get the info you need!
Make sure this is something for you, not everyone is cut out to be a trucker, do not go if its only to find a job and get a paycheck. The one thing our instructors told us was that out of the last 14 people only 2 might still be a driver after 1 year. Between stress and out on the road not everyone is cut out, if you have a spouse and kids at home it makes it even harder especially if you and your spouse don't have a strong relationship. luckily for me I have a very supportive wife but it's still difficult being away weeks at a time and even during the training I knew a couple guys where were having marital issues being gone just 2 weeks. If you have a passion for driving then go for it, if you hate driving, hate traffic or just hate being away from home then don't consider trucking...it amazes me the people who do it just for a job and then end up failing anyway.
Anyway you can find my site at http://swift.wolfyinc.com/
its really basic right now but I plan on updating things time to time and adding content when I have time so please excuse the poor lack of features.
If others attended the same academy and has more input then please post, not everyone experiences things the same.

Congrats on getting your CDL!

thanks man, it felt great getting it done. It felt like the days were going by so slow but once I got to the end it felt like the training was only days not weeks. Now I just eagerly wait to get on the road and in a few weeks have my own truck and go solo.

They were right with the numbers. 21 in my class 2 left. Was three but one quit yesterday. It's a numbers game and that is the goal of the company. I have been here 7 months and 5 to go. The biggest challenge is making enough out here to survive. Biggest reason for people in my class leaving. I told my wife we would be taking a vow of poverty so I could drive. Reason I am still here I simply love to drive.. Swift will push your nerves and patience but get past that you will be fine. If your wife works awesome you should be fine. If your the sole bread winner watch out. The best part about swift your fellow drivers. I have met some kick ### drivers out here and made some long term friends for life. I hate swift with a passion and can't wait to leave after paying back for my commitment for my class. Howard was the best part of the Phx Academy. I went to school there also and found the training pretty darn good.

Good for you!

Yeah Howard was a fun guy
My wife is a full time student and stay at home mom so yeah i have to make sure i make some money, as long as swift gives me work i will stick it out, if they screw me then i will hope i can find a company who will hire with less experience than a year.
I hear from some swift drivers they love it and the company is great and vise versa, some say it comes down to having a decent DM. One of the guys in my class i became good friends with has an aunt who is going to be his DM out of Fontana and maybe i can try to get her too if possible. -
WHOA! That don't sound good at all! That many quitters? I would have expected up to a 30% washout after a year but now it sounds like very few of our potential workforce have any backbone or work ethic! Have Americans deteriorated that much? That is so depressing! It sounds like America is doomed to failure! I guess it's time to move to the mountains and dig my survival cave! But I look around and still see a lot of people who haven't drank that koolaid so I think I will stay for now.

The newer generations are lazy and look to get a kush job and a free buck.
I had my first job at age 15 and have done a few different things since then along with degrees.
As a country things are going downhill though
