Do you need to remove the interiors roof upholstery to install the bullet style lights? I have a 1999 Pete.

This is an old thread but, If you are lucky enough to get the light housing screws out you won't need to remove the headliner. However, those screws are likely frozen in the rivnuts and you'll end up removing the headliner to use a vise-grip to keep the rivnuts from turning in the roof skin.
I have a 97 379 with bullet cab lights and there were no holes patched at all in the roof skin. I would have noticed that from the underside while I was replacing some of them.
Adding extra lights on the cab roof other than the required 5 identification lights will net you unnecessary attention from the DOT. -
Mine's an '89 and half the fasteners just spun the rivnuts.
I'm hoping that I can grind the top of the rivnut off and press in new ones. -
If your lucky enough to get the screws out without the rivnuts spinning you can put a quality silicon on the threads of the original screw and put it back in. That will seal it up. Ive done that in the past and had no leaks.
Bean Jr. Thanks this.
