Hello. I have a 2008 Columbia that has just started surging during idling. Idles fine, but every 30 seconds to a minute, it will do a quick surge and then go back to regular idle. It will also do a little hesitance when you're accelerating and you let off and then accelerate again. The hesitation lasts for but a second or two at most.
I'm getting no check engine lights and no codes are being thrown. Otherwise, the truck runs fine.
I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks, in advance.

Would at least help if you tell us what kind of engine it has.

May be sucking some air.

on some ser 60 detroits, I know of a few that had a sensor under the go pedal that went bad & would cause very high idle & other problems but threw NO codes either.

If it is a dd15, it is most likely the quantity control valve mounted on the high pressure fuel pump

2008 Columbia would most likely be a 14 liter Series 60, but could also be a MBE4000. Could even be a Cat C13 or C15.
DD15 wasn't out yet. DD13 was even later to arrive. They started putting ISX in after Cat was no longer available. I have never seen the red Cummins in a Columbia later than 2003 but they are said to have existed.
I'd go with a bad sensor or voltage problem as to the cause of the surge, and that's pretty much with any electronically controlled engine. Can't be more specific, as there are many things that cause issues and if you go to a good shop they can check it out and maybe fix by reflashing the ECM. The 2008 Series 60 14 I had was idling rough, and the reflash made it run a whole lot nicer.Muskyman734 Thanks this. -
