I am wondering about them as well. A friend of mine is looking at leasing his truck on to them and asked me if I knew anything about them. I don't know anything at all about them. Seems like I read or heard they are a sister co to martin? Does anyone know anything about them that is current?
-
I looked them up....if they are the same company out of Lakeland Florida you might want to think twice two alerts on them
123456 Thanks this. -
Reefer division of the former watkins that got bought out by fed ex.
Also sister to landspan. -
Alot of their O/O own, as in no payment, their truck.
I thought their rates were low, but they are a florida based carrier !!!! -
A lot depends on which division you are in. There is the Florida fleet, Chicago fleet, SW fleet and a few others. I was in the SW division (Texas and surrounding states). Each division seems to have different pay and what the O/O is responsible for. I was in SW fleet for 6 weeks. Left because I was going under fast. I was responsible for the first 200 miles of deadhead and all refer fuel! Seems like most runs the dh was always under 200 miles. The refer fuel was getting expensive. Put out over $500 in refer fuel in the first 2-3 weeks. Seems like I kept getting the really low on fuel trailer and that had to be brought up to 3/4 full. Not enough miles and too much overhead. When you have to start pulling money out of saving to pay bills it's time to find a different carrier. Rates look great to start but after you actually got down to what you were getting on some loads it was below my amount/mile needed. With all fairness though I do have a friend that signed on after me. He has done refrig freight before and seems to be doing ok with them. Case by case basis.

I have been with Sunco Carriers since May and have enjoyed being leased to them. This is my first company to lease to as I am a new owner operator, but I have been self employed in other industries before becoming an O/O.
Sunco has treated me very well and has not attempted to hide anything. If you want to see the invoice, they will email it promptly. If you want to talk to management, just stop by their yard and ask. It is a shock to be treated well and with respect right from the start.
If you are a new O/O starting with Sunco, they will help you and explain what is expected. Be sure to track ALL of your expenses the first three or four months so that you learn which loads pay the best and that you are reimbursed for certain expenses.
I run the Southeast Fleet which pays 69% of gross. Other fleets pay per mile. One of the reasons I chose Sunco is that I wanted to be home more often and I am. I get through the house most every week and when I want to go home, they get me home. Overall I am very happy to be leased to this company.
If you have additional questions, please respond and I will be happy to answer you. Or call Faye in recruiting at 855-258-2001, she is a no non-sense recruiter. -
On the refer fuel, the contractor is responsible for keeping the unit full. However, if you pick up a unit from a yard or shipper that is not full, fill the unit within two hours, write the trip number, your dispatcher's name and "refer reimburse" on the receipt to send with you bills. This will keep your expenses down. Plus, run the refer on cycle sentry after leaving the shipper.
If running the SE Fleet you are responsible for the first 150 miles of dead head. A key to getting the best fuel cost is to fuel only at Love's as they offer substantial fuel savings. I have saved anywhere from 9 cents to 53 cents per gallon. TA/Petro does give discounts at certain locations. Forget fueling at Pilot/Flying J as they give no discounts to anyone. -
Good morning Mr. Farmer. I'm thinking of going to lease onto Sunco as well. I'm currently on their lease list but I was thinking of just purchasing my own truck and make the move over there. How has Sunco been overall since you started back in May?

69% and you pay reefer fuel seems low. Not to mention coming out of FL. What are real settlement checks on # of miles.
