Am upgrading from a 7 car sun valley trailer to brand new one. Am considering getting an 8 car sun valley trailer. Most of my picks and deliveries are single stops. I need advice on the pros and cons of an 8 car trailer. Also what about a 7 car miller. i have a freightliner columbia tractor with tandem axle. thanks and be safe out there.

There are 2 drawbacks with the 8-car vs. the 7-car: First, as with any 53 ft car hauler, you’ll be over-length (when loaded) if you have a sleeper. Second is a small amount of additional maintenance for cylinders and posts.

If I were going to pull a 53 ft trailer, I would choose the 8-car. It’s not much more effort to load and you’ll make more money. On the other hand, it sounds like business must be good; why not go for a 10-car stinger? That would be my first pick, unless I needed to move other trailers.

Go with a 8-car. Like poster above said, you'll make more money. I have Miller 7-car right now, planning to replace it with 8-9 car.

You are not hauling cars are you?

As for the SV 8 car, a friend ran one for several weeks & mentioned that with anything larger than small to medium cars on, the trailer axles would be over 34k. Same thing for the Wally Mo 8 car. However, Sun Valley does have a new strap 8 car that they just brought out in Nov. Have no idea the empty weight nor how it loads. http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=4768569

There is also more high mount info here...

Thanks for the advice guys. The reason why an getting an 8 car trailer is that sometimes I can only haul 6 if I have large units like pickup trucks. So the 8 car will give me the extra space even if i can only load 7. I don't wanna get a stinger rite now coz I don't wanna go over my head. Plus 90% of my deliveries are cods. Sv 8 car looks good. Cottrell 8 car just has too many cylinder so more maintainance. Don't know till I try

    Good one LBZ.

Lucky for me the DOT uses portables on most of the lanes I run (New England, NY, NJ, PA). They don't want me dragging their scales around, so I get a pass (I won't tell them about my lift kit).

I read your other post. What did you end up buying? Do you get grief about length?

    LBZ Thanks this.

Still have the 2007 Miller. But thinking I am going to place it for sale in a week or two, then see what is available if it sells.
No issues so far with over hang. But have heard/read Michigan, Iowa & Ohio are pretty rough on it. Try to avoid anything farther east than Pittsburgh.

As mentioned in the linked thread above, a stinger would be great. But do not have the business for it & they seem to be inflated price wise $25-$30 grand on the used side.
That & keep reading about various issues in the finance market upcoming in 2014 that would lead to a political rant if I continued...
