I would like to hear from successful o/o who started with one truck and moved up from there. I would like to know what you hauled and how many trucks and trailers you have. I would also like to know if you prefer older equipment or newer stuff.

I would be really surprised to see real success stories on here.....
I mean like the ones I see on the road, beautiful truck, with matching trailer... One day, I will talk to one of those O/O's and pick there brain but they are too busy to be on here...and plus, why would they give up there goose egg.

Jerry Moyes is a good example. Started with 1 truck back in the '60s. He currently owns about 16,000 trucks.

A one on one talk with someone would be better. just because someone has new equip, does not mean they are successful. it may mean they are up to their eyeballs in debt. at the same time, it does not mean that all folks who do have nice equip are in that shape. Maybe people think when they see me going down the road, that I am a poor truck driver who has not been able to be successful. success to me is peace of mind. I am still driving the first & only truck I ever owned. it is a 95' intl coe. been in it over 11 years. my trailer is an ole 94' trans flat. my ole, not so nice or shiny looking equip has bought & paid for several homes & dozens of properties. so I make money whether my truck is moving or not. property that appreciates is better than a new truck that depreciates. everyone has their own reason why to buy new, newer, or keep the old. to each his own. whatever works for one may not work for another. some dont mind being on the road for weeks at a time. I have never been gone more than 2 day's.
it also depneds on the home life too. kids? wife? how many toy's does one have at home so that they have to live in their truck to make all the bill's? so when it comes to the other guy's success, your definition & his may differ. it is not all about what you make, but also what you do with what you make. Not one person on the road has ever asked me how did I become successful in trucking. but at home where I own the entire block, lots of folks over the years ask, how did I accumulate so much propery, when they see my ole truck, they kinda get the picture. A frugal lifesyle & that includes my equip.jmorris3288, SheepDog and uptownkid Thank this.
