Is this thing worth putting the money into or are they junk?
Way too much white noise
Volume/Squelch on same dial, and they spin together very frustrating
Now when I turn radio on in the mourning, I can't hear guys talk until I wiggle the channel selector. Like it is falling off frequency. I get noise if I back the squelch back, but it must be on the wrong channel.
Any pointers? Should I just trade this in and look for something new.
This radio has been a disappointment after my 20 years of running my old Mirage 9900.
Maybe I should find a good surgeon to go through my Mirage and get it back to work.

How many miles you got on it?

I assume this is a used radio that you had for a while? Sounds like you need to pull the cover off and spray the control pots, and the channel selector pot with some detoxit spray. then work the knobs back-and-forth to work the cleaner in.
It’s possible the volume knob might be a little too close to the squelch knob, I’ve seen that before. You could try to pull the volume knob out about a 16th of an inch, to see if that helps.
I think cleaning the pots will solve your problems though. Let us know if that works or not.Last edited: Nov 9, 2018
Timin770 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the advice. I will see if I can find a radio shop that I can trust to open this thing up.
I have not used this radio very much at all. It has spent most if its time back in the box for the last 5 or 6 years. I just use it for my spare while the Mirage is down. -
Pull your volume knob off and see if the squelch spins without it being on. If it does, it is either bent or it is gummed up with lube that is bad.
