I tried to stop this AM at what was one of my favorite Stops. The "All American Travel Plaza" in Strattanville, PA. (I80 exit 70) I found the driveways blocked, and a sign says closed.
I had an idea on Thursday AM when I stopped in, that something was up, when I found the fuel islands blocked. But was told just out of fuel.
What a shame. The food was good, the people were friendly, clean well maintained showers, big parking lot. Yes, it was an old place, and didn't have all the shiny new bells and whistles. But I for one don't need that stuff.
The first thought that came to me was that they just couldn't compete w/ the big boys shiny bells and whistles. (I for one, try to avoid those places)
I just wonder how much the fuel prices played a factor in the closing. I'm betting a big factor. I wonder how many more of the "old school" truck stops are headed for this same fate.
For those of you that are familiar w/ this nice old place, I wonder how long Bob (Bobs CB shop) right across the street can survive. I don't think very long w/o the truck stop traffic. Too bad, he's a good CB guy. You can't get him to talk much, but he sure can tweak a radio.
again, all I can say is "what a shame"![]()
