Strange DD15 engine sound

    2011 Freightliner Cascadia DD15 engine makes a noise when accelerating just a little above idling RPM and it gets a little louder. Once acceleration pedal released it needs about 3-7 seconds for sound to go away and then engine ideals nice and quiet. It looks like sound is coming from airbox at the top of the engine through a breather. Best way to describe it is it almost sounds like a motorcycle in the distance. Kind a low frequency knocking sound, like some of the hoses were not connected, but we checked all hoses are connected.mechanic adjusted engine brake valve, he thought that valve was slightly closed and that was making sounds. After adjustments, sound is still there, No dash lights come on and truck is still running great just making the noise. Any suggestions? Before I ta

    Sounds like my cummins ram pickup if I have the exhaust brake engaged at idle. Sound exact sound that comes from the air intake.Just saying but anyway your truck obviously has jakes.

    Just saw the video and I'm 95 percent sure you have an intake valve stuck open. Remove the inspection plate on the bottom of the bell housing and turn the engine over to tdc compression stroke on either 1 or 6 (red dot on the flywheel) check valve lash on intake and exhaust valves. Turn over engine again until you see the red dot on the flywheel and check the other intake and exhaust valve lashes..

    Hard to say. Turbo issue? When is the last time u checked the air filter. Only on acceleration??

    @Drivesemi2 . Did you fix the problem w loud sound on your truck? I have the same issues but don't know what is the problem on my dd13 engine. If you did resolve the problem would you please tell me how did you do it . Thanks

    I have the same issue did u figure out the problem I replace engine air filter new oil change and filters new turbo does not eat oil no leaks anywhere only does it on acceleration or on a cold start in the morning
