All the truck I drove before have a hand valve, that is very easy to test the trailer service brake (blue).

I am going to buy another truck that is no hand valve, could you tell me how to test the trailer service brake in details?

    thanks

push the tractor brake in ,and pull out(apply) the red valve and tug on it with the truck...same brakes...( trailer parking brakes / emergency brakes(red valve) are same ones you the stop the trailer with )

but you are ONLY really testing the spring brakes not the service brakes. they are the same (brake shoes) but a different air line altogether. he can go and step on the brake pedal, but that doesn't mean he will have trailer SERVICE brakes..!!!! would YOU WANNA find that out the hard way yourself..????

to the o/p, you should be able to get a trolley handle installed, at cost however.

Red knob, or the brake switch.

You didn't say what kind of truck. But Freightliner offers a flip switch on the dash. I'm sure others do as well.

Which seems ridiculous to me. Since the switch and the knob DO the same thing.

Use a squeegee or tire thumper to wedge between the drivers seat and the brake pedal to activate the brakes.

Yes, I think that is just test the spring brake, not by the trailer service brake line, I am think about to get a trolley handle, but i think that cost alot.

then the brake will apply to both tractor and trailer , can't test the trailer service brake.

Or you mean activate the brake, then go outside to visual check the brake?

maybe not. the "plumbing" should already be there, if not, we really aren't talking too much money, especially when it comes to safety.>??

and what would one do in case of an accident, and the lawyer for the "other side" asks, "do you check your trucks brakes daily, and if so, how can you REALLY check them with missing pieces of equipment..???

DO NOT GIVE the lawyers a chance to gang up on you and win thier case AGAINST YOU...!!

Yes, you are right. Will try to check how much is it first.

Is there really no other method to test the trailer brake? how the swift driver did it?
