Where do I begin? I put in 3 years with them to pay off the loan and thinking that things would get better and I would be treated better. I was wrong on all accounts.... A whooping 17k my first year no where near the 40k they advertise on their web site. They talk to you like a dog after your recruited of course. I met a few drivers that claimed they make money there but I honestly believe they where fooling their selves they were just used to the system.......I'm going to list my complaints...
1. Treated badly!!!!!
2. Pay is horrible .26cpm to start. When other training companies like TMC, Schneider, prime, central, Crete are starting as high as .38 CPM it takes 6 years with Stevens to make that.
3. Insurance is barly considered insurance.
4. They charge for everything. The cost of getting to and from Stevens and to a trainer. As well as the hotel and food in orientation plus the books are all deducted from your pay when you become a solo driver along with a meat lock and load locks. They Nicole and dime you to death....
5. Required to take classes in Dallas every 90 days plus have a safety talk. Most common hold time on the yard is 3 days. Of which they do not pay you for but it is required!!!!!
6. Home time. I ran as long as 8 months once without going home. And the most I ever went home was 3 times in a year. They even try to keep you away from there when your on the road! And when you request home time they play games to keep you on the road!
7. At one time I could say the training was top notch but there just like anyone else now. Its just a scam anyway charge you and take a school to work tax deduction!
Look people do your research. Don't get caught up in the game there are tons of trucking companies out there. Sure Stevens has great equipment the drivers pay for it in everything they are charged and it makes for a good recruiting tool it suckered me in......they talk a good talk and if your gull able or neive you'll fall for it! Think about this they only have one terminal as well as 2000 trucks. But yet they hire between 50 and 75 people a week! That's more people a year than they have trucks. The charges and school to work tax credit is a second businesse they keep it stressful to keep their turn over rate high! Then when you quit there is no telling what they will put on your DAC to keep you from getting another driving job they want you to quit but they don't want you to benefit another trucking company!!!! Good luck everyone!

Wow, lol
So you say you only made 17K your first year? How? That comes out to (even at just .26 cpm) 5400 miles a month or about 65K miles 1st year. Why did you drive so little? Ive never seen a driver at Stevens that only averaged so low. There had to be some major problems to come out that low. My first year I did over 120 K
Emulsified Thanks this. -
3 Years at Stevens... ? You need to be commended for having a high-threshold for BS. I am the opposite... I lasted 7 months before I had enough and turned in the truck. The long standing misconception is that the money is in "Pulling A Reefer", it does not take a driver long to realize that once the WAIT FACTOR is figured in at meat/produce plants that they are being snookied. Here is the question that a driver needs to ask themselves....Is maxing 14 hrs a day make sense if Half or less of that time is actually driving ? Stevens Is A Training Company. I suggest going to a flat-bed outfit that pays percentage or dry van outfit that has large customer base=more drop/hook.
Voodoo Pyg, skibum_63 and jomar68 Thank this. -
Because of all the charges they have. You being there you should know that I only sent home once my first year. Also I still have all of my pay settlements and will gladly post them.
-
The charges is why. And my gross pay may have been above 20k still no where near the 40 to 50k the advertise. My net pay was 17k I have the child support case paperwork to prove that. .26 CPM is 260.00 for every thousand miles ran. So before taxes and Stevens charges! Besides Crete at 3 months starts at .38 CPM takes 6 years with Stevens to make that

If I had to guess why he got short miles its most likely because he was a company driver. Alliance always got the best, teams the rest, and crap and scrap to company drivers.
"Not making enough money? Has anyone talked to you about our lease program? Its a walk away after all!" -
Did you not research anything before starting with Stevens?
-
I have made some bad choices over the years also, and one recently. But you drivers listen; back in 1990 I made $44,000 with MS Carriers, and then I went to Carretta and made 30 cents for all miles back in 1993 making $47,000 that year. Now thats 20 years ago! Back in 1987, there were few driving schools and I went from 2 days practicing on an owners yard, to passing a driving test for North American-no red tape, no CDLs, etc. Today, if you are not making 45 cents or more you are not making enough. Starting at 35 might be ok, but these mega carriers are ripping divers off at 26 cents a mile-period. Twenty-six cents a mile was what MS Carriers was paying in 1990!
Now abuout Stevens, their head recruiter that travels the country came to Ohio where I had to do a refresher course after coming back from overseas. He was bragging about how many drivers Stevens would hire that year (to a class of new drivers) which was over 1,200. I asked him how many trucks they had and I think he said about 1100 or so. Anyway, the figure came out to be about 110% turnover. With that statistic, it told me there was something wrong with that company as in many mega carriers.
Yes, you have to start somewhere, but the point is that drivers are getting cheated by these companies as pay has not kept pace with the times. There are so many small companies that pay better with little as 6 months experience than Stevens so if you can't make it why not move on? -
That's too bad your exp with them wasn't a pleasant one.I see Stevens everyday waiting for Tyson loads and some sit as long as 3 days.
