Does anyone know what type of harness Kenworth uses? I'm pretty sure they use the same harness connectors as one of the major automakers, but I'm not sure which.
I'm going to be getting a new stereo for the truck very soon, as the current one is driving me crazy. I'm hoping someone here can save me a few bucks & let me know what harness adapter to order with the new stereo.
Thanks

Just cut the harness off your old stereo. All the wires are color coded. Use butt connectors and reused the same harness for free.

Like Poor Boy said just cut it off. Companies like Metra or American International don't make a harness for KW. You could probably order it from a KW dealer but it's totally not worth it. If you want to leave the harness in the truck just cut the old one off the radio and wire it to the new one and plug it in.

If I'm not mistaken, that won't work, because the harness plugs directly into the back of the OEM radio. I really don't want to hack up the original harness, because when it comes time to sell the truck, you can be #### sure the OEM radio will be right back in there.
Like I stated earlier, I know the plugs are the same ones used by a major automaker. Just can't remember which one. -

You can search if you wish, I've got both catalogs laying here and neither have what any of our KW's have.

Last 3 KW's I've ordered I ordered them without radios/speakers because all the OEM stuff is junk and WAY overpriced. However I always get them wired and it doesn't matter, with or without a radio they all have had the same 2 plugs.Displaced Yooper Thanks this. -
I purchased a Blaupunkt radio from Crutchfield and was going to cut and splice wires. But to my surprise the factory wire harness plugged right in to the new unit. My mechanic only had to swap two wires around in the clip. He had a special tool that releases the wires out of the clip so he could change their position.

I just looked at the color code on the back of my stock radio and matched that to the new color code of the new radio and used butt connectors everything worked for me.

What's funny is it takes longer to dial the phone looking for a harness, then it would be to just butt connect or even solider and heat shrink.
