PLEASE HELP. 2 months ago I was hit by a Sand Hauler. I was in a dodge ram 2500 heading south he was heading north. He came across the lanes took out a telephone pole and the Tboned me. He told the police his steering wheel locked up on him. 2015 Peterbilt I have had my CDL for about 15 years and have never heard of this happening. Has anyone else heard of the steering wheel locking up. I think he fell asleep because he never hot the brakes.

He was probably texting on his cellphone. Hope you're not hurt.
Intothesunset Thanks this. -
In an accident like that the police should have examined his vehicle for any mechanical problem as part of their accident investigation.
You should contact them to see what they say but you are probably correct that he fell asleep. -
Knew someone that once extracted the keys on a long hill to save on fuel, steering wheel locked and he had a heck of a ride down the mountainside.

What kind of truck? -

Our spare truck (2000 Pete 379) did that once to me. I came into town, went to make the right turn, and the power steering quit. While it technically locked, it sure felt like it. After they replaced the power steering pump and gearbox, it was good as new.
So it can happen.Clambert022577 and QuietStorm Thank this. -
Never heard of it.
Maybe a couple of the cars had that but eh...Clambert022577 Thanks this. -
I've had an automatic completely lock up on me twice, basically shut itself off on me on the highway both times. It didn't cause me to go across a highway and I still had enough steering to maintain control to bring it to a stop, safely as can be done in that situation.
If he never hit his brakes, and he didn't slow down until after he started hitting stuff, then even if his truck locked up on him it was not the cause of the accident.
He was either sleeping or distracted by a phone too long to notice the problem until it was too late to take proper action.
