They tell me to fill out the book but never do anything I report.

Air brakes over 10,000 pounds and they put Radial retreads on the front. One blew out like a 50cal the other day, while I was driving on a bridge. Tire was of Chinese descent with no DOT numbers.

Now annuder truck I get into has different sizes and of course treads on the front, big gash in the sidewall. Now I can already hear you say DON"T DRIVE THE VEHICLE. To which I reply: most deaths from falling are from a six foot ladder. DON"T USE SIX FOOT LADDERS?

Anyhew, is it legal to drive with different sizes on the front?

What I'm seeing in 393.75 of the FMCSA regulations doesn't seem to say they're prohibited:
Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR)

Note it says "regrooved, recapped or retreaded" must not be used on the steer axle when refering to a bus. However, they only refer to "regrooved" tires when referring to a truck or tractor and only on tires rated above 4,920 lbs. Now I'm no lawyer so could somebody break that down?

As long as he’s not carrying passengers recaps are legal on the steer axle.

As for the op’s question, I’d be more concerned with the gash in the sidewalk than if the tires are different sizes on each side.

Hold the press! Just so I understand are you saying they put retreads on the steer axle or on the drives?

It is legal to run retreads on the steers, except on a bus. Its not advisable, but its legal.

I would be most concerned why you'd be driving for someone who uses mismatched size/tread recaps on any position, especially a steer tire, unless it was a yard dog or a tractor doing field work...imho.

Different size tires on a steering axle? Damaged tire on a steer axle? Recaps on a steer axle?
Three strikes and out....I'd get away from that company. Now.

Different size tires on the steer axle, bet that would be fun to try to keep straight on the road. Hard pull to the right or left.
