Cabbage is actually Emigrant Hill, although no one calls it that. Or you get people calling it Dead Man's Pass sometimes. This is the reference I found online.

Cabbage Hill
Locally, this refers to what is actually Emigrant Hill, or I-84. According to McArthur, Cabbage Hill is actually a long spur extending down Emigrant Hill, ending at Table Rock at McKay Creek. The name "Cabbage Hill" comes from a garden containing cabbages on land owned by Mr. Huderman, near the top of the slope. It was named that by G.L. Dunn, of Gibbon, who was herding sheep in the area. The name was adopted and has been used ever since.
Cabbage can be a nasty bit of work if you don't pay attention. I've seen a number of trucks come off it smoking. The truck before the one I'm in didn't have a jake brake, it had a party favor, and I ended up smoking my brakes once. Not badly enough to completely lose them, but between no real engine brake, and no trailer brakes (which I'd just found out) it was pretty unpleasant.
Steepest grade you ever pulled or went down.....

14% hill just out of Riviere Reynard on the tip of the Gaspe Penninsula in Quebec. It begins about 1 trucklength past the traffic light on the north end of town. Before you reach the top you're watching your rpm going down and you got no gears left. Real treat in winter when there's slippery spots and cars behind you.

Not sure if anybody said it yet but when your on CA 62 and go to Big Bear on the 247 and go to the 18 and take a left. That grade suggest nothing over a 30ft? trailer I think. The grade is about 16%IIRC and I did that in my pickup. It is steep and curvy as heck. 10mph curves. Going on the 247 out to there there is a couple of grades that are well over 10%. One is not marked but is probably 18 maybe 20% but not more then a 1/4 mile long. It is a crappy drive in my F-250 with a powerstroke which is nowhere near stock so I could not even imagine trying to do it in a big truck loaded up to 80K...
